Evening all,
Before tearing down my engine to replace the knackered
crankshaft I noted that after finally getting the bike
to stay running, both rc valve pulleys would kind of
Shift open to close rapidly.
Is this normal behaviour?
Now, after completing the rebuild I've noticed that
both pulleys are always on the low setting, closed.
Even if I rev the bike to 2000rpm they don't move,
if I manually move a pulley to full open and then turn on
the ignition, the pulleys go straight to their default
low position bit don't do anything else.
Bit difficult to rev the bike to 10.000 rpm as I have
an underground garage and the tenants above have
already busted my bawllz a few times..
Any ideas?

When my power valve pulleys wouldn’t work it was a blown Pgm and after fitting a replacement and blowing that it was the aftermarket coils that were the culprit. A very expensive lesson learned about keeping standard parts.
I’m not saying that is your issue but that is what it was for me.

Dam zeus, that is $hit luck mate.
This problem of random non starting has been present ever
since I bought the bike last year.
Using the Utani coils I have on both rgv and nsr.
I've got funny feeling that it's the dam pgm that's faulty, no chance
finding a spare unit here in Italy..

If you disconnect the TPS, do they cycle to HI?

If not, it does indeed sound like it could be your PGM. In an ideal world, you'd like to try your PGM on another bike, but I understand there may not be many around you to try that.

I've never used him myself, but I have heard reports that Nick 2T-RaceLab does good PGM testing & repairs. He's in Greece, so shipping/taxes shouldn't be any issue for you.

Note: I've heard he offers "internal" derestriction, which I strongly advise against. Better to manually do our wire-splice, so you (and any future owner) know where you stand.

Yes Andy, the pulleys do indeed move
from hi to low, if I first manually move them with
the ignition off, turn on ignition and both pulleys
Cycle back to low postions.

No, I mean if you turn the ignition on, and disconnect the TPS, do the RC Valve cycle to HI?

If you can only get them to cycle to LO, I expect the PGM needs to be examined.

Ok,
Finally managed to get back to the bike after clearing
out a few cars blocking it in..
Anyway, I've checked the operation of the valves again.
If I manually turn the pulley to the HI position and
turn on the ignition, along with the red kill switch also on,
the servo motor immediately turns towards LO.
If I then leave the pulley either half way between HI or LO or in the LO
position with the throttle pots. connector disconnected,
the pulley swings to the HI position.
The main issue is that once the pulley is in either HI or LO
it won't move anymore.
I've tried revving to 2/3000 rpm but it won't budge in any direction other than
HI or LO.
Any more ideas?

Well, that's a most unusual one. Normally, if you can get the pulley to cycle to HI, everything should be fine. As it is, it sounds like a failure of the servo control circuit, but something I've never seen before personally. Sounds like you're going to need to get the PGM checked.

I'd suggest you try dropping Nick at 2TRaceLab a message, explaining the issue, and see if he's ever encountered the problem before.
