Kiss CDI

Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:24 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Ever since i got it 2 yrs ago i never touch it because i got two bikes that im building( RZ350 and NS400) As you know building two bikes at the sametime cost big $$ so i never touch it but today as i was looking at it i cant stand how filthy/dirty it is so i decided to clean it at the sametime do the splice. As i removed the tail farings i found out that it has kiss racing cdi. Now my question is, Is this the same as the m-max type ? Which one is better the splice or this ? Also my fairing bolts are different, The left side is threaded bolt and the right one is the clip type. you turn and it locked up. Which one is the original one?

I'd keep the KISS CDI in place, as it negates the need to cut into the harness. It's also way cooler than any M-max box, if for no other reason than the the M-max is downright deceitful in its operation!

The M-max is just a $150 wire splice that pretends to also do a GPS splice! We've know this for years, and also told everyone for years, yet fools still go out and buy them, and even more alarming is that unscrupulous retailers will still sell them!!

As Andy says, some people still like to fit an Mmax, Kiss, Posh etc delimiter. I am guessing that some (a small number these days) still actually believe that there's something special in there, and other just don't like to get in there and start cutting and soldering. I can understand that.

Fact is that they do nothing other than a simple wire splice, and in my opinion they just clutter up the bike with unnecessary boxes. Splicing yourself allows you to keep all the wiring tidy and looking standard.

Only if you've got an HRC box in line should it be on show. Just so that you can brag down the chip shop.

Andy, did i read somewhere that you were experimenting with the wire splice and the delimiter box as well or is this just my imagination?

If this was the case were there any gains to be had or would this idea not work at all as you end up with two wire splices?

For the best part, an orange/blue wire splice on the Mk2 MC18 and MC21 is enough for top results.

Using ignition curves from different gears by splicing the GPS could have some useful effects, but it could also go very wrong if not comprehensively tested on the dyno (which we've not got round to yet). Splicing the GPS to use gears coupled to more advanced ignition curves could be useful with higher octane fuels or optimised compression ratios, but in all fairness the stock PGM with a traditional wire splice is perfect for 99.9% of applications.

Sorry if digging up this thread is against the rules, but it saved me from posting a new one.

I was going through the tangle of crap that is currently draped over my empty frame, and have seen that I have a hrc box instead of the m-max the dealer told me was in the bike when I bought it. It says HRC not for highway use along with something in japanese.

What is special about the hrc box aside from it being built by hrc?

On that note, the dealer also told me the pipes were hrc. How do I tell, as they're just flat black and the silencers aren't marked. Personally I think he was full of it, but you never know your luck in the big city.

HRC box is made by HRC! It releases full power from the ignition. What more do you need to know?!

HRC pipes should have an HRC sticker on the bottom of each pipe. The sticker looks almost like it is actually printed on the pipe rather than stuck on... far from easy to duplicate. Later HRC pipes (MC21 for sure) will have HRC stamped into the collar on the silencer mounting flanges.

I expect you have mild steel Jha pipes. They are the most common, and the cans look just like HRC cans, except the outlets are a little longer.
