For the best part, an orange/blue wire splice on the Mk2 MC18 and MC21 is enough for top results.
Using ignition curves from different gears by splicing the GPS could have some useful effects, but it could also go very wrong if not comprehensively tested on the dyno (which we've not got round to yet). Splicing the GPS to use gears coupled to more advanced ignition curves could be useful with higher octane fuels or optimised compression ratios, but in all fairness the stock PGM with a traditional wire splice is perfect for 99.9% of applications.
