Another MC21 build.........

Sat Jul 04, 2009 12:41 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys,

I recently purchased another MC21 for the stable. It was a somewhat ratty R model with some resparayed '28 bodywork. The plan is to ultimately make it look a bit like a '92 RS250, but plain white with minimal graphics. I will get it back to stock appearence first though, after a complete teardown, inspection and cleanup/refurbishment.

For bodywork, I am thinking of using a Silhouette tail unit with an '89 MC18 mkII top cowl and fairings. There seems to be a lot of options on Yahoo for this.

Chassis mods will include a Penske shock; an NXA RS250 front end; and some RS wheels if I can find them.... I would like to see the body lightened up a bit though.

The motor isn't going to be wildly tuned for every last HP, just optimised. So far I have HRC reeds and spacers installed; an I-factory coil kit; Daytona filter (I will drill the airbox); a fresh top end; and center plug conversion. At the moment I will stick with standard chambers, but withsome nice free flowing M-Max carbon-kevlar mufflers.

Should be fun!

Scott

Hey Scott,

Where abouts in Vic are you? Would be good to catch up

I am in the process of finishing off a MC21 rolling chassis I purchased a few years back to get the front end for a MC16. Just need to confirm with Vicroads that the frame is good to go....if its not I will be needing to find a new one Sad.

My mods have been;
rvf400 frontend,
wilber rear shock,
tyga body work, levers and cans

I have a dry clutch assembly to drop in at some point.

Run for the hills, it's a jetting question!

Wed Jul 08, 2009 3:23 am » Post: #3 » Download Post

OK, at the moment, I have fitted the HRC intake rectifiers, reeds and spacers, and drilled four 20mm holes in the airbox lid (as per a recent thread) & fitted a daytona filter.

I will use the stock expansion chambers, with some free flowing M-Max mufflers, which are straight through 23mm internal diameter cans.

Average altitude would be about 250m asl with current daytime temps around 17 degrees centigrade (it's winter ok........).

Where abouts would you start with jetting? I want to grab a heap of jets to cover a broad range so that I can progress down, but don't know how high to start nor want to have to keep driving into the city to get different sizes after every run.

If I need to supply more info, let me know.

Scott

no idea where to start scott, but let me know if you are looking for jets. I've managed to buy a couple of HRC jet kits so have a range you can always try.

If this was posted in the setup section, and someone feels like attempting to answer, it will then be in a specific area along with other similar information for easier future reference! Wink

wrong section??

Andy,
Whenever I have seen a jetting question, the answer is usually something along the lines of "members area" & "members builds". I'll happily move it or post it there, but I thought this was the right place to be.

Just keeps it in one place, when it will be easier to reference in the future.

I was badgered for so long to create the section, and now hardly anyone has used it!

The pheonix

Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:05 am » Post: #8 » Download Post

Well, it's been a year, and kind of a stop-start exercise, but it's all back together, and about to be registered.

I changed my mind along the way with what I set out to acheive, and ended up with a stock 1990 R7L model (my favourite colours after the black/red/silver '92 SE). Considering it was a corroded old basket case with crappy non standard painted MC28 panels, I'm pretty happy with the result. There's actually not much of the original bike left to tell the truth.

It's got a few HRC bits in it, a few more to go on shortly, and I'm undecided which way to go with the pipes. I have some old SE forks that I'll use to rebuild the R ones on this bike at the moment.

Time to get out and ride while the weather is still good.

Now for the next project........

Scott,

That looks GORGEOUS!! Is it all OE bodywork or did you respray some/all of it? I looked at the pic before reading your post and thought "he's gonna race THAT????!!" lol

Ok, so what's next? Are you going to build what's left over into a track bike or look for another project?

Craig,

Yep, it's all OEM bodywork, and about half is new, the rest in very good condition. Way too tidy to risk thowing down the road on a trackday, so yes, the next project will be a '21 based trackbike, built up from spares and leftovers, reconditioned parts from the two roadbikes. I'm planning on selling the NS400 to help fund the next build.
