mc 16 update

Mon May 04, 2009 7:17 pm » Post: #7 » Download Post

Iv'e finally got most of the bodywork I need Very Happy ,and it's all original apart from the tank which I sprayed myself. The power valves are all set up and working just need to sort the jetting, It's running to lean with the r5k barrels . I just need a few more bit's, fairing fixings, decals etc. Then off for a m.o.t should be done for the summer can't wait!.

I like that there are more and more people restoring them to original spec/condition.

This parked next to RobH's red/white R2J would look tops! Very Happy StephenRC45 is looking for a nice R5K to fit his stock SP bodywork to, and there are a couple of nice OEM MC21/MC28's out there too now.

That would be good to get them all lined up together. I had to bring her back to original I think there quite rare in that condition plus theres not much you can do with a mc16 without a lot of hassle, theres not any tune up accessories available bodywork, expansion chambers etc, you can't even get a decent set of tyres! so this baby's staying original and now iv'e got the bug i'll will be looking for a mc21 to get stuck into, but that won't be standard Cool

Yup, I need a proper stock R5K/R6K MC18 to get going on.

Got some super SP body work. A HRC swinger and shock and a coupel of other goodies to make it into a real nice road bike.

mc16 back on the road and nearly in the ditch!

Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:21 pm » Post: #12 » Download Post

She's finaly passed the mot and back on the road Very Happy

I originaly had an open air box with ram air foam, nice sound but she had a slutter around 5-6k, after reading on the site yesterday I cut four 30 mm holes in the lid and put it back on and the improvement was imediate when i started her up crisper and better responce.

anyway took her for a spin last night and got caught in a shower I gave her a large handfull open road on a slight curve at about 60mph the power band kicked in and she spun the rear wheel up! fecking hell I had to put both legs out as stableizers my feet were sliding along on the greasy road! it was nearly a very ugly situation.

I went for a good hours ride this morning in the dry and its definately making decent power now with the air box lid back on.
Iv'e got some mc18 carbs to put on at a later date, should go really well then. Theres a few bits left to sort out like decals, mirrors and bar ends.and a couple of other things to tidy up,
But for now I want to try and get a few weeks of riding while the weathers still ok.
Theres no way i would have been able to do the bike without this site.
Cheers.

Thats the best way we've found to do the air box. Glad it worked out for you as well.

As Andy says, more pictures!

I'd really like to see a row of bog stock (looking) bikes lined up some time.

Here's an idea for you, fit the MC18 carbs and look out for a set of R2/4J pipes for it. Gut the MC16 cans and get some free-flow internals for them (I think it was silikesguiness who posted a good link for silencer consumables before), and mate them back up to the MC18 chambers. It'll still look just like an MC16, but you should be right up around 60hp with those mod's I reckon. Wink

I bought some MC18 R2J pipes for my MC16 for that very reason before I found the HRC F3 pipes for it.
