Possible MC28SE Dry Clutch Problem

Sun Jun 01, 2008 12:18 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I finaly got hold of my MC28SE today....

Not Having enough time to go through the bike and make sure everything is checked, i went for a liitle test up the private road (officer)i live in.

Should th dry clutch be very grabby and the bike need around 3-4k on the tacho to pull away?

The clutch seems very grabby almost lightswitch on/ off..much grabbier than i remember my TZ's being

Your thoughts??

Cheers Rob

The dry clutch is normally very smooth. I would suspect a worn basket or hub.

The dry clutch on my 21 is really smooth with no grap what so ever, apart from the rattle no difference between dry and wet clutches.

If your TZ was like my 95 TZ then in a race start i would have to slip the clutch for at leat 200 meters so it did not bog down!

I finally got out on the bike yesterday evening.....WOW these things are seriously fun fun fun.

Anyhow it seems the problem could be an exceptionally worn front sprocket I believe, as it seems only to it when you launch the bike hard in first gear and the sound deffo sounds like chain jumping a sprocket

Open the throttle fully in any gear and it pulls fine with no noise or clutch slip.

The head bearings are also very loose and I will have to sort out the suspension to as it is rock hard and does not move at all......lol

I have decided to strip the bike and go through it thoroughly, as I need to know it will not let me down.

The front wheel also needs balancing.

I will let you all what I find, as Intend to strip the bike to fix my new TYGA pipes and inlet goodies too at the same time as giving it a through servicing.

Cheers Rob

I'm not convinced by wheel balancing on bikes. More likely either the head bearings are knackered or the discs (less likely) are warped which is causing an out-of-balance sensation.

My Magteks aren't balanced, and the stick-on weights on my Enkies fell off a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away!) and neither cause me any problems. Shagged NC35 discs that some 400GB twot sold me caused some issues before, but I've never personally had any problems with NSR discs.

If the front sprocket is that shagged, you will most likely need a chain and a rear sprocket too. It's a false economy to replace just one part.

Only my car eats more, but at least that has twin turbo's, but no jets to play with..... OH!! the joys of plug chops
