Rebuilted engine but cant start it...

Sat May 26, 2007 8:28 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi!
I have just overhauled my engine(mc21) after a long time waiting for parts and the bike spent months in the garage.Putted everything back but the bike cant work properly...it started for some seconds and then stopped. The servo motor is not working when ignition is on and i dont know where to start.Should i change all cables and try the servo again but without connection with the rc valves? What else should i check for the bike to start?

The RC valve servo motor not working will not stop the bike from running.

If the bike has been stood for a while I would be checking that you have good fuel flow and that the carbs are clean.

Do you know if the bike has a good spark on both cylinders?

If the RC servo is in the correct place when you turn the key on it will not move. To test it, turn it so the valves are open, then turn it on. But this will not explain why it will not start. You could set the valves closed manually and try to start it if the RC servo is not working. Do you know if the TPS is hooked up?

I am thinking tomorrow to pull of all cables and see if the servo works alone.
I am very anxious and worry about my PGM...if the servo will not work i will install my friend's other pgm to see if its a pgm failure.

About carbs now yes they are clean but i think this time i must check the float height.
if it hadnt spark i guess it couldnt start for any sec but it did work for a while.
About the TPS just to be sure is it the white three pin connector which is near a green connector?

Tread carefully when installing "your friend's" PGM on your bike to test it. If your PGM has blown because of a fault then it's highly likely that you'll fry your friend's PGM when you fit it to your bike so they won't be your friend anymore!

Better to try your PGM on your friend's bike. If the valves are working on the other PGM, but not on yours then you can be pretty sure that your PGM is at fault.

Yep, my PGM is at fault Crying or Very sad

Today we installed my pgm to his bike no valve movement...

Then putted his on mine and everything went just fine.

We adjusted the valves and after that we started it.

The bike was running fine and everything seemed ok at the first heat cycle.

During warm up we noticed that the rear cyl's exhaust fumes were a lot more than the front exhaust's fumes.

Also noticed some coolant leaks but not for sure if it was from the hoses we will inspect it tommorow.

We installed my pgm again and bike started without of cource valve movement. It seems it doesnt give power to the servo.

So my problems are:

1)coolant leaks

2)more smoke at rear, less at the front

3)My PGM doesnt work the valves.

4)kill switch not working and throttle grip doesnt return back alone. Not much of problem maybe it needs some cable change or lubrication.

All problems solved except that the PGM doesnt open the valves.

Do you know what i should do to start and run the bike without valve operation?

All you can do is disconnect the RC valve servo motor and set the valves in a 50/50 postion to give you usable bottom end and half decent top end power. The bike should run ok.

Thanks!
I will do that untill i find an other pgm because i need to break in the fresh motor.
Is it ''bad'' breaking it in without the power valve operating normally?

I would get in there and do the wire splice before I even started it.
