FS: MC18 SP Dry Clutch engine complete, used

Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:20 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Removed from a low miles Terra bike that had been stored for years and owner couldn't get running again.
In the process of defurring the outer casings and giving it a general clean .

Comes with:
TA Carbs
RC Servo
OIL & Coolant tanks
All cables including speedo
I think all relays / sensors

It is complete just now and Front n Rear cyclinders are making 138 PSI , I am waiting for the head, base & carb overhaul gasket kits to arrive on Wednesday then I will split the top end off and do detailed photos of the bores - from looking in the exhaust port they look good. I will also then remove the carbs and open them up for cleaning and fitting the overhaul gasket kit, again will photo before and after.

Have attached some pic's for now but better ones to come Very Happy

Engine needs to be sent in two parts so the new gaskets will be included - I will rebuild the carbs (cleaned with pukka Mikuni crab cleaner rather than a carb cleaner designed for skooshing in while the bike is running - these destroy O rings ! ) Bottom end will be inside a sealed cardboard box that is then placed inside a plastic crate and secured with bonding straps (easier to carry) with the top end and carbs going into a cardboard box of their own. Packages can be staggered , grouped or sent same time - your decision.

71,000 Yen including upto 12 weeks SeaMail to Europe/Ireland. (this can be upgraded to EcoAir or Express air but much moolah!)
65,700 Yen including upto 8 weeks SeaMail to Oceana/USA/Canada.

Comes with a start up warranty (rebuild must be carried out by competant/qualified person) , should any component (excluding cables) and providing it is still available fail ; I will supply at cost price for 3 months after arriving at destination. I will check the tracking to confirm this date. Fuller details on this warranty on request, but your not going to be disapointed with this unit or my service.

The MC18 SP was made in limited numbers and the engine is derived from the track version RS250 , these engines make the same power as an MC21 (or should in the right hands!) so this package would suit a variety of owners. If still available (should be) I will also put in a new seal for the dry clutch to crank incase the original starts weaping from not being used for so long and then being heated up. A few hoses are needing trimmed back and you can decide to have these replaced with OEM / Aftermarket at extra cost.

Cheers, MM!

Gaskets arrived today but it's a national holiday so I am lounging Very Happy

Have had some PMs about this so in the interest of fairness, please leave your mark here saying you are interested in it pending more pics or you want to buy it.

I have answered the PMs in the order I received them , it is a fixed price so please don't offer more thinking that will seal the deal , first come first refusal and all that Smile

Engine needs to be boxed in two sections as it is overweight for conventional post complete. You don't want to know what private couriers want to ship it Shocked and the only other option is private sea cargo and that has a min' charge of one cube which is about 10 NSR engines ! So a lot of unused space being payed for.

SeaMail has tracking and signed for at your door - no port pick-up , your domestic postal service will deliver it Cool

cheers,

MM!

Had time today to get the top ends off , have worked on a fair few NSR engine so know my way around them.

On the rear barrel the nut under the RC valve assembley is a tricky sod - I guess there is a Honda special tool/socket for this one - I ground a ring spanner to fit a couple years back so it was just a case of fishing it out of the toolbox. Being the tricky one I always crack the torque on this one first then diagonal & across, they studs were soaked in penetrating oil a few days ago in preperation - well it didn't help ! Had to get medievil on the thing Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad The three easy access ones come off no worries , the front cyclinder was much the same but less carnage on the nut Surprised

The upside, all fingers and knuckles are still intact Laughing

So new stud (it got a bit destroyed and already removed) & 8 new nuts ordered up (mental having just two shiney new ones).

Pulled the power valve rails out and the seals look worse for wear so new ones ordered too , one set of power valves have rusted but are no longer avaialble new Sad With the engine sitting the cages on the reed blocks are heavily rusted too - might have others in my read block box Idea

Front piston shows some signs of overheating - is this common for the bikes ? Rear looks fine , both bores have some marks here and there but nothing terrible or deep.
Rear:

Front:

Although there is no signs of oil leak/weap at the dry clutch I was wanting to get a replacement seal for it, these are now no longer available so my advice would be to put a conditioner into the oil to revitalize - should this or any MC18 dry clutch seal go your only option is swapping it out for a MC21 set-up with the revised parts.

Crank looks good with no major rust and spins freely in casing without abnormal movement or noise.

Didn't have time to open up the carbs so they need to wait until next week now as tomorrow is another full day Embarassed

Still a lot of motor for the money so if you have a set of SP powervalves it's worthwhile grabbing it , ask around and see if they can be fitted with 21 version or not.

I had the dry clutch seal go on my MC18 engine. I sourced a seal from a seal and bearing shop that was 1mm larger on the outside diameter. Then just got the case machined to suit the new seal
So there are options for people with the older dry clutch set ups.

Gasket kit

Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:45 am » Post: #7 » Download Post

Have gathered up all the new parts now so going to be packing the motor up very soon.

8 x Nut (bolting down barrels)
4 x Circlip (piston)
2 x Seal (RC valve pin)
2 x Crush washer (drain bolt barrel)
1 x std (crankcase)
1 x Gasket (reed block)
2 x Base gasket
2 x Head gasket

That's 8,882 Yens worth ( about 70GBP)
