Work?

It works the same as a wet clutch, but doesn't run in oil which robs the bike of power. It also means you can replace the clutch without draining off the engine oil (tranny oil on a two stroke), and the oil doesn't get contaminated with clutch friction materiel.

Of course, the real reason on a roadbike is that it sounds awesome! Cool

Don't leave out the cost ? Dry clutch replacement parts will cost you more and are not made aftermarket, Honda only ! Wet clutch steels and frictions I think are interchanged with another bike and made aftermarket.

From my minimal experience with NSR's I would say that the dry clutch is better than the wet clutch in every way except one.

It looks great, sounds great, feels great, but it sure does wear out quicker than the wet clutch.

I have a box full of worn out dry clutch steels, frictions and springs, including damaged baskets, inner hubs and pressure plates. Whereas I have another box full of excellent condition wet clutch parts that nobody has the slightest interest in.

One things of interest is that the bloke I had many an NSR battle with back in 94~96 (Mr. Christmas Vilaroj) never once used a dry clutch. He even won the Macau 250GP on full HRC NSR250 F3 four times, all the time on the wet clutch. He claimed that the dry clutch just wasn't worth the trouble. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Unless you've already got one fitted cuz you have an SP eh Monkey?

Since my NSR is my toy, I can live with the reduced life, the ONLY drawback!

what sounds cool to some sounds bad to others...

when you are hanging out at the local bike hot spot, the dry clutch will be the talk of the town. Not only is your NSR the coolest thing around Cool , but it has some sort of racing dry clutch thingy...! Shocked

but when you are at a traffic light next to a car that doesnt know anything about bikes, just be ready to have someone stick their head out the window and ask you if your bike is broken.... Wink
hehehe...

anyone out there put there bikes in neutral while at a traffic light?

I'm a bugger for making the most of my "Jingle Jangle" clutch on the 300.

There's very little more amusing in life than sitting on the front row of the grid (Pattaya Central Road traffic lights) playing tunes on the dry clutch, while twenty plus Honda Wave 125's gather round trying to suss out what all the noise is.

How many times have I heard those words...."'Ere mister, you wanna put some oil in that thing"!!!

Hi,

Out of interest, How much more power does the dry clutch give than the wet clutch?

Cheers, Mat.

Thats a good question! Have you ever tryed to turn the clutch with that huge oil seal behind it. Thats one hell of a lot of fritction! lol i wouldnt be surprised if a dry clutch is no better than a wet clutch once the power gets to the rear wheel.

We had the option of running dry clutchs on the RC30's and YZF's but never did as they wouldnt go the distance in endurance. lol and Brian (my boss hates the noise) we must be nice too him tho as hes lettin us use the dyno!

Which has biggest "pose" value at a bike meet?
Dry Clutch or Race Exhaust?
Very few four stroke boys can rattle away like an SP can. They would if they could.......
At the traffic lights anyone who knows anything about engines will respect the tinny rattle more...........and where they can deafen us with exhaust noice we can choke em with fumes!

Jeff Sz, i just got an aftermarket clutch from FCC (via TSR in Japan) with heavy duty plates and springs. I think someone out there will copy any plates you provide. can't remember who. sorry.

Koren, do NOT leave your bike in neutral at the stoplight. for safety's sake you should be ready to get going when some dipshit is poised to rear end you.

peace out, scott
