Bad seizure.

Fri Nov 09, 2007 9:27 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,
2 months before i had a seizure. Sad

The bike started again but with lower compresion. So took the barrels of

and saw that the rear one was a mess... seizures in 4 corners and pieces of nicasil missing.

checked the front barrel and was fine.checked it again and found out that
it has a very small crack on the bridge.

I paid 1000eur before 5 months for plating,pistons,etc.

The problem is that i dont know the reason. Oil pump checked seemed fine. jets cleaned and everything on bike is stock. any ideas?

Not warmed up enough?

Too tighter piston to bore clearance?

Cheap oil?

Poor replate?

All 4?

I almost always warm it up. i was traveling when it happened.

Always sunthetic oil! So, poor replate or the second...

I replated them in holland. The greek tuners seem to send them in holland

Can you propose me someone who is doing it fine and how much? Here in
greece my only option is to fit liners...

I'd say bits of plating missing is always bad plating, you never see o.e. Honda plating coming off.

Try and find some good second hand un-molested barrells... Way better than a replate.

Its a little difficult to find 2 good barrels at reasonable price and then find

and match pistons.I am very sad because i wanted the best for my bike

and i chose to plate the barrels from fitting liners like others do here

(greece). And what did i get?seizure and cracked bridge.

I didnt trust the liners cause i heard about seizures at first 100metres.It needs a lot of precise and good work to be done when fitting liners to last years.
But from my personal experience saw that
this damn replate is difficult to succes too. I havent got the 1100eur plus

for the 300kit i only have the money for a second replate. Is there anyone

in this world who can replate nsr 250 barrels like they are his own?

i have found stan stevens good for plating and have owned a few bikes tuned by him that were well put together and lasted as long as the standard bike would had.

Stan Stephens DOES NOT replate barrels - they are farmed out to a specialist plating company.

I don't personally know of ANY engine builder/tuner that plates their own barrels. I do know a many that are considerably LESS ignorant than Stan Stephens however! Rolling Eyes

he seemed ok when i sent stuff to him in the past, and the plating on the barrels i got him to send off outlasted the rest of the engine that they went into.

who else is cheaper and good quality for plating as i am rebuilding /tuning a engine from a 1974 s****i t500 i am going to race next year and im doing it on a budget?

You don't need to "star out" Suzuki on here...

Pretty much all I won't stand for is TXT in posts, over-the-top swearing (used to have some readers who's kids also looked on the site), and bore-stroke chatter!!

I've had a few cylinders re-plated by langcourt in Weston Super-Mare over the years (not NSR) http://www.langcourt.com/index.htm and they have always been a good job. Not sure it's any cheaper going direct than it is going via BDK or Stan or whoever though as they doubtless negotiate trade discount with the plater. Not sure if BDK or Stan use Langcourt or the other big UK plating place, the name of which escapes me just now Confused

Cheers
