Bolt above exhaust valve, upper right on Cylinder

Fri Jun 01, 2007 10:38 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Question gents, just got my Cylinders back and was curious to know what the bolt is for on the cylinders...it is above the exhaust valve, on the upper right side of cyl. Is this for bleeding the air out of cooling system ? Again, inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks!

If its the m6 one on the exhaust side its for draining the coolant out.

Stephen, thanks for the info. So, it would be loosened prior to removing cyl head and cyl to drain coolant etc...

makes sense, would you also use to bleed cooling system after complete rebuild?

Thanks!

Not really.

On the lower cylinder the drain is at the lowest point (not helpful for beeding air). And on the top cylinder its below the cylinder head so not much use bleeding there either.

The top cylinder bleeds well anyway as the water stub faces up into the termostat so bleeds well into the rad.

The lower cylinder takes a little "jiggle" to get all the air out of. Normaly if you lean the bike left then right you release alot of the air. It normaly takes me one or two start ups and water checks before all the air has been bleed out after jiggling though.

By the time I've done all that the rings are shot so I start to pull it all apart again anyway... Rolling Eyes

that's very useful information stephen! I am slowly becoming an mc21 expert. I think I might be able to get the rad topped up tonight when it cools down a little( it's been in the low 100's here in Az.) and then possibly give the bike it's first heat cycle after rebuild. The moment of truth..

have a good one Mate!
