Can the shell 100 octant fuel be used on the 2-stroke?
I bought a motual800 2T is it ok for the NSR? it written off road on the bottle and seems to be design for dirt bike just making sure dun damage my bike.. _________________ MC28, Repsol
Motul 800 off road will work just fine I have used it in both of my NSR's. They do make a 800 Road race formula but it is getting harder to find here in the USA. I bought two gallons at Moto gp last year from the motol vender. I use motul 600 low smoke in my street NSR and will be using 800 road race in my trackday bike. I don't know what the diffrence is but the road race just smells better. _________________
So should i use it for my NSR or not? im scared i do damage to it.
and the shell 100octant fuel which has like 7% ethanol in it claim it will save fuel and more power for cars, and is that good for NSR or any 2-stroke?

If you are going to premix then the 800 would be fine. If you are using the oil injector then you need to find an oil that will work in an oil injection system. 100 octane fuel should be fine. I can only get 91 octane at the pump in California. What have you been using up until now? _________________
I use 98octant all the time,, either BP or shell, i prefer BP, but at least i use primium 95octant if no ultimate 98 avaliable
for the 2T i use the mobill synthetic fortify, when i buy the motul 800 i ask the shell is it ok for 2-stroke motorbike like NSR,rgv and he said is fine.. but i guess they are not so professional...
im told that the shell 100 is no good for 2stroke bike though, not becasue of the 100octant but the additives of the fuel, like i guess the ethanal and other additives.. my friend he tried the octant 100 and find he gain more low rev power which 2-stroke dont really have, but probably not good for the engine. _________________ MC28, Repsol
It is ever so slightly denser than 98 / 95 octane which can have subtle effect on oil mix and carburation but it is so slight that you wouldn't notice it unless your NSR is in a seriously advanced state of tune.

DO NOT USE SHELL FUEL IN YOUR NSR!
There must be a very good reason that harley davidson australia voids warranty's if you use it.
Also, "the cleaning properties" of the fuel would fark with the oil and prevert lubrication. I've personally seen toluene pumped into at least 3 shell servo's, ok in a 70's muscle car, not too good on a 2-stroke or hi-tech.
ethanol is a pissweak excuse to artificially gain octane numbers
The only fuel to use is BP ultimate or failing that mobil 98. 98 octane delivered through better refining and NO crap substitutes.

Mr (The) Bob Farnham recommends using nothing else but Shell Optimax for all but the most severe of his tunes.
I use Optimax in 2 highly tuned engines and have had no issues at all.
If you mix Optimax with avgas 50:50 you get a slightly better fuel suitable for track bikes - more stability in the burn and will tollerate higher compression ratios.
If you can afford it - use 4 star leaded.

hey binka i think its comes down to world geography here, you guys are probably getting a greater refined fuel with less or no additives. -Not sure, can only assume.
I just remembered, some mates of mine are rotary enthusiasts and were told to use optimax only. All their engines have since blown up, through no fault of their engine building shop, EXCEPT, they now tell them not to use optimax, only BP ultimate......

I too have been warned about using Shell Optimax in 2strokers here in Australia. The Optimax we have here have a cleaning additive that is not supposed to be too good for our little strokers, but great for the bigger EFI 4s.

Hi, yeah you could have a very valid point there.
Part of the additive that goes into the UK blend of Optimax is some sort of plastic.
It allegedly acts as a lubricant and detergent so it suggests it is really for engines using an exhaust valve and and inlet valve a'la 4 stroke.
However, most modern strokers use a power valve of some sort so possibly an aid there.
Also, being a stroker, the bottom end takes a load so again, perhaps a benefit there.
Speaking to Bob on fuels and fuel suitability a while ago I got the 'full monty' discussion. He made it clear that alot of what you get advised on is rubbish and that pump quality fuel these days is pretty dire.
You need the octanes in a high performance stroker, to stop pre-ignition, detonation and the cleaner running seems to come from having the lead there hence why 4 star is the true go go juice.
Every stroker I've tried this on ran cleaner and felt better on the road as well as helping midrange power - a cleaner burn I assume.
