HELP: rear axle + starting

Wed Mar 15, 2006 3:15 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys, i've had a scout around and so far cant find the info so i'll ask you all a question......

The rear wheel has been off my 21 for ages now, anyway i repaired the problem and threw it back on the bike, uh oh, looks like i've lost a spacer somewhere.
If it is a spacer, no drama's i can whip it up on the lathe.

QUESTION: Does anybody have a tech drawing of all the components that assemble to the rear axle?
If not can anybody out there tell me what there is from left to right, arm to arm?

Sounds stupid, but its the only reason i cant theoretically ride my bike tomorrow!

NEXT QUESTION: I havent started my bike in about 2 years. The bike has been sitting in a nice heated garage (not in weather) ANY PRECAUTIONS THAT I SHOULD TAKE BEFORE CONNECTING MY NEW BATTERY AND KICKING IT OVER? (top + bottom end fresh done and 1000k run in before put off road) lubrication problems are what i'm most worried about???

Any help would be majorly appreciated!!!!
Cheers,
Lachlan.

so anyway, i got a bit overexcited this morning and i threw the battery in and 4 kicks later it fired up. It didn't blow nearly any smoke for 20 seconds so i shut it down. I wound out the oil control knob near the coolant bottle cap about 2 full turns and fired it up again, it then wouldnt do anything except idle for 15 seconds then it bogged down and died (still no smoke). I wound the oil knob back to where it was and kicked it over again and it started, this time the lower cylinder is not firing but the front one is smoking as it should. -Can anyone tell me if i should be worried? Im going to try some new plugs when the shops open tomorrow. both the spark plugs for the mc21 are BR9ECM is this correct?

On the missing part of the rear axle is there meant to be a spacer between the right hand swing arm and the caliper holder?

Any answers or thoughts would be highly appreciated!!
Cheers!
lachlan

That is not an oil control knob. That's the tickover adjuster. The oil can only be adjusted by altering the cable to the oil pump!

You should have primed the oil pump first to check there was oil available at the nozzles, but as long as you didn't rev it, you might be ok.

Thanx for the post dave!

When you say tickover adjuster your meaning idle adjuster?
Sorry, i've never really played with it before, was told it was oil mixture screw....

Back to the shed.......

I'd also be tipping out the fuel and putting in fresh petrol if your bike hasn't been started for over 2 years Shocked

hey Jerry mate, yeah i've got fresh bp ultimate in it, but thanks for the heads up!
I've spent the last 8 days painting, fitting, wiring, CLEANING!, parts collecting, etc so i can go tear up Melbourne with you! Hurry up and do your top end mate, I'm hoping to be riding this thing legit in a week!

PS- If you get a chance mate can you look at your back wheel and see if there is a spacer between the wheel, the caliper bracket and the swingarm somewhere??

Cheers!

You can look at the whole rear wheel assembly on the online parts manual on this site... You'll find out exactly if you're missing anything straight away.

Online Parts Manual

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:52 pm » Post: #9 » Download Post

I'm getting a little fed up with this!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with the Online Parts Manual.

All that needs updating are some of the MC18 part number pages, as just haven't had time to complete them yet.

ALL THE IMAGES AND ALL THE PAGES WORK.

I test the OPM in Mozilla Firefox and MS Internet Explorer every time there is a "fault" with it, and every time it's the end user where the problem lies. Check out the search feature and look for references to the OPM to fix the problem.

All the MC21 pages that cover the swingarm, rear wheel, and rear caliper work - I just checked, and that's another 10 minutes wasted when I could've been getting on with the English Workshop Manual! Rolling Eyes

Is that you Lachlan?

To have the online parts manual working properly, you will need to have Java installed on your machine. Sometimes your screen resolution can effect it too, so it may need to be adjusted. Here is the pic mate:

I have several 2 stroke bikes. Whenever they have been sitting or I am unsure about the oil pump I add a little oil to the gas tank while I check out pump operations etc... Good luck!

Hey Jezza yeah it's lachlan mate, cheers for your help!

Andy: Apologies mate, I was clicking the bikes in the lower portion of the page and for me they came up as 'error-no info'. Anyway i've just clicked the pics of the bikes at the start of the page and have been able to get the info required! I have to say there is obviously a s#%tload of work that goes into both the parts manual and indeed the rest of the site, and I'm mega thankful your doing it as I'd be lost without it!!
Thanks champ keep up the great work and thank-you!
