Mon Feb 27, 2006 6:53 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have a 1989 nsr mc18, its been running sweet as until today it just dropped all spark, is this likely to be bacuse of wiring ? or a circuit, all neutral and oil lights work as well as other elctrics, bike has compression and fuel, spark plugs are clean but neither is getting a spark, any thoughts ?
thanks

Hi .I'm no expert but take a look at you kill switch, all your connections from your CDI and PCM including testing across those multi pin plugs, and your earthing connections to the frame and coils anything that is common with both coils really. When you sort it out ,let us know as I'm having a bit of bother with mine!

sounds like it would be something simple like one of the battery wires fell off

Mate, mine got 300 kit, HRC this and that and went back together (after running really nicely when it was standard) and now it is DEAD. Temp guage moves and tacho twitches when kill switch is flipped to 'on' (HRC race wiring now so no key ignition) and the powervalve servo does everything it's supposed to when i mess with the throttle position sensor plug (as detailed in the powervalve set up guide on the site). Everything is present and correct except the spark on either plug...

Maybe i've put the generator and/or pickups on wrong (coz that's the only area of the electrical system that isn't playing ball) but it didn't seem to me like you could possibly get it wrong. It'd kick arse if someone said; "hold on sonny, i had the same problem and after abit of messing i found it was a problem with the way i had; (insert dumbass spannering fault here)."

HEART BREAKING....

Hermit, have you got access to an Ocilloscope? That'd show you the timing and size of any signals coming from the pickups. You can then trace the signals back to the PGM unit.
