The nightmare of two cards

Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:47 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Has anyone seen a faulty PGM that still works with a stock card but not an HRC card? I have an MC28 that I have been trying to fit an HRC card to. I ordered the card did the wire splice per TYGA web site installed the card nothing. But the stock card still worked. Was told by dealer my connections were at fault. I re-did my connections and checked with an ohm meter. Still nothing. Was told my connections were still at fault. Ordered a HRC wiring loom installed it and still nothing with the HRC card and the stock card still worked. Sent the card back to the dealer they sent back to HRC. HRC said card is fine. Not too many components left with the wiring harness. Card, harness, and PGM. Harness and card are new PGM works great with old card. Is this possible? I cannot even swap out my PGM beacuse the cards are programed to my PGM. I am in the U.S. so my local dealer doesn't even know what an NSR is. Is there any way to check my PGM?
Please Help!!!
Jeremy

is your card "coded" to your PGM?

I am told by the dealer that it is. I have no way to check. I don't think they have a way to check either.

Did YOU personally supply the 4 digit PIN number from the silver sticker off the back of the PGM-IV?

It sounds very much like the card is not coded correctly.

I supplied number to said dealer not Honda. Sounds like the card to me too. Its the only variable. Confused But I am told they have been selling cards for ten years and never had a mis-coded card. The card has also been sent back to Honda to re-check and I am told everything is correct. The number on the package of the card does not match the number on my PGM. I emailed matt a couple of months ago about this problem(Yes I've been trying to get this card to work for 8 months now) Evil or Very Mad he said they should match. He did NOT sell me the card. Said dealer told me the numbers don't always match. Does anyone else have a card that works and does not have matching numbers?

Sounds like the dealer is pulling a fast one I'm afraid.

As far as I've always been aware, the numbers MUST match.

Not that TYGA's word is Gospel, but Matt knows his stuff, and if he says the numbers should match, then you can bet your ass the numbers should match! I'd trust his word over many others'.

I received my card from JHA about two weeks ago (along which some lovely titanium silencers and uprated clutch springs Very Happy ), not tried the card yet as I have a broken collar bone Sad . Not even sure if I will fit it as I have MC21 flywheel and not sure what gains I will get, mainly bought it as a spare in case I loose my original. However, looking at the card it has a silver sticker on the back with the e digit number that matches my PGM (sticker behind clocks).

On the HRC package it just has the honda part number for the card:-

30450-NKD-600

also another number which I am not sure what it is:-

K5T31

Hope that is of some help? Does yours have your PGM code on the back of the card?

Dont worry, I am aware of what will happen Shocked . I am just not sure what gains I will get of the card over just leaving on 21 flywheel with standard card.....is it really worth splicing my standard loom and loosing the warning lights??? The bike is used on road as I have a Mc21 and a MC18 which I would use on the track....the HRC card does have pose value though ! Very Happy

I still have the standard flywheel which I would put back on if I was to add install the card.

Thanks for the concern though, good to know there are people looking after me an my bike.

Watford - no worries - glad you're up to speed.
I believe the top end restriction will still be in place?
You will need to defeat that to see the benefit of the flywheel ignition timing. I'm sure you know all this.
Tyga have a curve with this set up [splice, stock card and flwheel] I believe?
I think the card only gives a bhp or 2 over that?

You think it would definately die with the '21 flywheel and HRC card? On race fuel maybe? There is after all a kit part to advance the '21 timing more (30490-NKD-840), and Honda presumably ran that and the SP heads/R cylinders togeather (which Steve did this summer unknowingly anyway on the '21) Twisted Evil

If we're going to even come near these 80bhp RGV250 claims we'll need to find this sort of thing out. If it hurts to do so then so be it.
