Hey y'all

I've just put new throttle cables on my 92 MC21R.
My problem is that the throttle won't snap shut when released. in fact it won't move at all unless twisted shut by hand... cruise control...
With no cables connected, the throttle shutting spring seems really powerful so i must be doing something wrong with the cables themselves, but can't see it?
Does everyone else's throttle snap shut on its own when you let go?
If you have overcome this problem yourself could you help me please??

Make sure you have free play first, if there isnt any this will hold the throttle open. After that check the routing, if the cables cross over this can also cause stiff throttle action.

Forgive me if I'm being a doofus - getting on a bit you see - but there isn't a spring in the throttle is there? Just the one on the carbs?

Therefor, I can't see how the throttle will snap shut with no cables attached?

Or is it time to wheel me away for my horlics...

Make sure that the hand grip is not binding on the outside end of the handlebar (grip touching the handlebar) as this can cause the throttle tube to hang up. Also check that the grip is not pushed to far up on the throttle tube and binding against the throttle/killswitch housing (there should be a plastic washer between the grip and housing). I have seen both of these scenarios cause binding before.

Well having just looked at my NSR, I'll wager £100 there's no spring. The spring is part of the carb assembly, and if you detatch the throttle cables - as in "With no cables connected, the" from the first post.

Or - and maybe I've finally got it - does he mean the slides won't snap shut? To me, the throttle is the bit on the handlebar, the things held shut by the spring are the slides.

Is that why you use the wrong plugs in your bike, dont bother to adjust the power valves and wonder why your bike makes 44bhp? lol

Must you cling to that? And what did 1 jet change do? Lift power to 51 - proving my statement I'd set it rich having only been thrown together a few days pevious. Sheesh!

No no no no, mine was "set rich" and gave 57bhp, moved up to 61 with a little advice (and some scraped knuckles) by Steve and Andy, 28 carbs may flow a tad better but they're not fun to work on.

the phrase "lift power" and "51bhp" should never be used anywhere near an NSR250
