idles high when in neutral

Mon Oct 17, 2005 7:09 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

i bought my mc21 a few days ago and it has stalled on me a couple times now. Some times when i'm at a light in neutral, the revs start getting higher(without the accel) and then it goes back down and stalls. Another time is when i'm in first gear and reving up down the street it seems to struggle from 6000 rpm... i changed the plugs and a mechanic told me for 2 strokes i need to pull it above 9000rpm so the plugs dont get covered with oil.. what seems to be the problem??

And also what gear do you guys stay in traffic? i am always half clutching and moving in first but i'm scared its gonna stall on me again so...??

any suggestions?

Sounds like you may be running out of fuel. Rev's usually increase then die away when you get fuel starvation on a 2t. Confused Question

Sidestand down?

If not, it sounds like you could be ruinning lean, and the bike doesn't have the power to cope with the clutch / gearbox drag. A high tickover can also be due to a lean mixture.

Have you done any work to it recently?

Have you checked the colour of the spark plugs? What is it?

And the colour of the ones you removed? Did you fit the correct plugs?

Check through your fuel system. As said previously, the revs rising at tickover then stopping is usually a sign of fuel starvation. Strange that it runs when you're into second though.

Pull the carbs apart and give it a good clean, and check your jetting while your at it.

Also check your oil pump settings for good measure.

As for revving it over 9 grand to keep things clean that's a little over the top. Pretty much all stock strokers will run all day well under this mark. Even my 300 will tick through the traffic at 3000rpm for at least half a mile before it starts to stutter and complain.

i asked about the problem to the shop i bought my bike and he said that its not a problem it only happens when the bike isnt warmed up.. is that true? does your guy's bike lag in first until your bike gets warmed up?

Also, my gas seems to burn very quickly. I filled up already twice this week. around how many clicks(kilometers) do you guys put it in reserve. i usually put it on reserve after around 90 kilometers.. but i guess thats because i rev up to like 9000...

90kms is about 50(ish) miles I think. I dont go onto reserve until about 120miles, or 200 kilometers.

Confused
