help one last time?

Thu Apr 13, 2023 10:52 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All. I'm one of the older members of this board in more ways than one, and I have received more help over the years than I have been able to give due to my relative ignorance - for that I am both grateful and somewhat embarrassed. Unfortunately health problems dictate that I give up my MC21. Took off the fairing to start cleaning and discovered an engine mount bolt(?) (#31 on parts schematic) was beginning to back out on the left side (see pic)! The problem now is that parts #17 and #35 on the right side, into which the bolt is supposed to fasten, are of course gone - just the end of the bolt showing (see pic). Worse, I believe there is also supposed to be a rubber spindle part on the right side (to match the one that can be seen in the pic of the left side), BUT I do not even see a part number for the spindle part. So I am asking for help one last time...is there a part number for the missing spindle that I am not seeing? Or better yet, does anyone have that part lying around that would be willing to sell it? I can't help but think the bike is giving me a big "F-You" at the prospect of being sold. Twisted Evil Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

P.S. Special thanks to Tuckerbag for getting me this far.

I can't believe you've been consorting with the freeloaders, Jim! Still, I'll let you off, 'cos I like you! 🤣🤣🤣

Here's what I believe you're looking for...

#13 - 50210-KV3-680 - RUBBER A, MOUNTING
#17 - 50212-KV3-680 - RUBBER C, MOUNTING
#36 - 90303-428-900 - NUT, FLANGE, 10MM

You might want to check you're not missing #5 too...

#5 - 50108-KV3-700 - COLLAR, ENGINE HANGER

Bless me Father, for I have sinned! But really just a little there. Smile And bless you, Andy! If Karma is a real thing, you will be well set up for the next chapter. Me? Not so much! Once again I am grateful and embarrassed by my ignorance. Interesting your parts schematic is slightly different from mine but both are equally incompressible to me. Embarassed But IF I am understanding, the parts I need on the right side, which now has only the rod poking through with no spacers evident, on your diagram in order would be #36 -> #17 -> #13 -> #17 -> #5. (I'm assuming because the bolt on the left side had not pulled out that far that the bushes, spacers, etc. on THAT side still have to be there in the correct order!) Do I have the parts and the order they should be installed on the right side correct? As always, many thanks.

The MC28 manual is a little clearer...

Using this image, if the spacer's stil there, then yes, I expect you only need #12 (#13 on the MC21 diagram -- the rubber insert the pushes into the frame), #14 (the outer cap - #17 on the MC21 diagram) and the nut #28 (#36 on the MC21 diagram) to secure it all in place.

Thanks Andy.
Is the spacer (#5) something that is likely wedged in pretty tight to the point that you can't really tell it is even there just by looking in from the outside? I ask because when I look at the left (intact) side, I see #14, then #12, but no obvious spacer after that, and THAT spacer should not be missing (unless it's never been there!). So maybe the spacer IS there on the right side, I just can't tell that it is there, is that possible?

Separately, both schematics you've posted highlight TWO #14 (MC28) or #17 (MC21) bush mounts that seem to bracket the splined rubber bit (#12 of MC28; #13 on MC21); so do I need TWO of the #14 (or #17) RUBBER C bush mounts or just one for the right side? My left-side set-up has just one outside of the splined rubber bit which suggests only one is needed but that doesn't seem to correspond to the diagrams.

Sorry if I'm coming off as thick. You definitely wouldn't want to be in my head on this stuff!

Thanks.

Some people say I have too much time on my hands.... Laughing Laughing

I guess you could mistake the spacers for being part of the engine casings if it's all a bit grubby, or you are trying to peek in through the fairing. The bolt would have to come out a long way to lose the spacer; it was really just a word of caution to check for it.

*Image may not be entirely correct... I modelled it from memory! Smile

Thanks, Andy, that rendering you did really brought it all together for me. Now that I know how to look at it, it's clear everything is intact on the left side but everything is gone from the right side, including the spacer! Just the rod sticking out from the case. Argh. The worst of it is the spacer seems to be the one part (50108-KV3-700) in all this that is not available any longer! Evil or Very Mad Fooked for wan t of a $5.50 part no longer available!

Checked CMS, Rising Sun motorcycles, Redline Powersports, zippo. Does anyone have any ideas for where I can find one, new or used? Fook me. I suppose if need be I could extract the spacer from the left side and try to get a machine shop to make one....but I'd rather have the actual Honda part if at all possible.

#36 - 90303-428-900 - NUT, FLANGE, 10MM

need 2 of these:
#17 - 50212-KV3-680 - RUBBER C, MOUNTING

Yeah, it's just a "simple" alloy spacer. Any machine shop, or even hobbyist, could knock one up in a couple of minutes.

Good job I mentioned it after all! 😉

So it's looking like I'll need to remove the spacer (50108-KV3-700) from the left side to take to a machinist to replicate. Elementary question - I'm wondering if I have to support the engine somehow with a jack or if instead I can safely just pull the rod out to get the spacer? Thanks.

No, the rear and bottom mounts will be more than enough to support it while the top mounts are removed.
