Fuel Tap/Carb Leak

Sun Aug 21, 2022 12:45 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi chaps, it’s been a while since I last visited and posted up on here! Rolling Eyes

I dragged the relic out for a recommissioning (MC18) and after a strip and clean of the carbs I have a fuel tap which won’t stop leaking, it’s now discontinued and all aftermarket items are listed for the MC21. Can anyone confirm these will fit?

I also have an issue with carbs leaking fuel from overflow outlets. I’ve stripped them twice to check float heights and still giving me issues even though the valves are sealing absolutely fine when I check them with the carbs stripped. Any ideas???

I can't remember who it was, but a while back someone posted about drilling out the little rivets on the fuel tap and replacing the O-ring inside.

As far as I'm aware, the thread on the base of the MC18 and MC21 fuel tanks is the same, so the tap bodies should, in theory, be interchangeable. However, the length of the main brass feed tubes and filters differ, so you'd need to trim the tube, and swap the filters.

The plastic switch extension is just held in place with a small cross-head screw, but I the stubs on the switch bodies differ, so you may need to get a little creative fitting the MC18 extension to the MC21 body.

There is actually a brand new MC16/18 tap assembly on Yahoo! Auctions right now for about £30, item ID: l1059122035

Thanks Andy.

It’s decided in the last half hour to stop completely from dripping so I should imagine the seal has swelled up a little now lol.

Forgot to add, T2Racing now do replacement float valve seats too. Probably stating the obvious, but if the float height is correctly set, the only reason you will be seeing overflow is if the valve isn't fully seating/sealing.

It sounds like a similar situation you can find with spark plugs... they may appear to work perfectly well when tested outside of their normal working environment, but once fitted exhibit faults.

Yes, that is actually a thing!

We've soaked NLA seals before to reclaim them.
