Hi Wayne,

All the engines are technically interchangeable, but you will need to make modifications depending on what motor is used. Things like flywheels and stators need to be changed, keeping the original MC16 items (mind you, an MC18 flywheel may give a useful ignition advance upgrade - but don't quote me on it!), and the G.P.S. socket will need blanking if you use an MC21 motor.

Other things though, like MC18/21 carbs make for a great upgrade to the MC16. You will need the later model insulators (MC21 with HRC stuffers are best) and to rejet, but they are naturally SO much better than the 28mm MC16 carbs.

I think Nigel Moss has an MC16 bottom end kicking around, and you could get your barrels repaired by Langcourts - go direct and it's around £100 a pot.

What is actually dead on your motor?

Andy.

A thrust washer broke(left conrod) and got mashed in to little bits surface marking the counter weight part of the crank(i think thats what its called),head, barrel ports(the bores ok),piston top(not rings)and the area(engine base)under the crank Crying or Very sad .All the other parts, rods, barrel piston main bearings are ok.Jeffs seen it and say it junk,I would have to agree it must be better and cheaper to get another motor(a good one)and keep this for spares,unless... you want it and a wad of money to run a story about rebuilding a 18 motor Laughing .thanks for your help Andy is Nigel the same Nigel whos doing the Santa on bikes Rolling Eyes . both my bikes are 18s r2js,but do the r2js have 16 motors and parts as the barrels are hex shaped.

For those hard of seeing, the stuffers are the bits inside the reed cages.

Note the HRC ones are a different shape...
