Dry Clutch information.

Fri Aug 22, 2008 11:55 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey, just looking for some information about dry clutches. I dont know an awful lot about them and was wondering if they are supposed to make that scraping sound when the clutch lever is pulled in. I looked for some info on the net but couldnt find much of an explanation about them. Also, what is the difference between dry and wet? and which is better / prefered?

they make a sound like a bag of bolts rattling and probably what you would cal la screeching sound.....yes this is normal.

Do a search and you'll find many different thoughts and opinions on clutches.

Wet use a little more power as the plates are spinning in oil.

Dry sound better!

Yes you get a few funny looks at the traffic lights with the dry clutch rattling away. But it makes me feel like i'm on a proper race bike. Very Happy
Dry clutches come from no compromise race bikes. I love the ease of stripping them out to work on (no oil to worry about).

Hands up all of us who pull the clutch lever in a LONG time before the light change, or even flick the lever in and out while it's in neutral at the lights, just for the hell of it! Cool

Squires Bike Cafe in Leeds has a long car park. One time I pulled in and coasted all the way down it with the clutch in. Loads of people around. Just got parked up and a guy came over saying 'great bike - sounds very rough though' Laughing Laughing

I get told I need a rebuild as the piston slap is out of control.

My MRS HATES IT !! . She once asked 'Why cant your bike sound like that' (pointing at a CRB600) My death stare and lack of responce told her never to make that comment again.

It was one of only two saving graces of the 748 I was lent a few years ago... the rattly clutch and the fact it was just like sitting on an NSR due to the size of it and look/feel of all the Honda controls/instruments!

I'd have a 748/916 just to look at, but that's all! Maybe better off with a Mito instead! ROTFLMAO
