wb is the man to talk to about TZR's.

There are several TZR forums knocking around, this one seems good, nice memorable url as well!

The big difference as far as I know between the 3xv SP and R is that the SP spec barrels are what you want if you want to make some decent power.
The R barrels themselves are restrictive.
SP barrels, a different CDI and some pipes will net you 60+bhp.
R barrels and anything you want will not.

Yeah you want an SP, RS or SPS, or if you can find one an RC SUGO, which is F3 spec.

The engine on an SP is a stonker when derestricted. Way more midrange than an MC21/28SP and almost as much top end. Tuned, they're again a good match for the best 250's ie, the MC21...

They have great suspension out of the box and handling is arguably even sweeter than the NSR, although I think the riding position is way too laid back.

Basically, get an NSR, 'cos they're way better! Wink

There are quite of differences between the R and SP model bike (some minor, some major) ,but you should also note that there is an RS model which is kind of a half way house and these are often advertised as SPs.

If you advise what year it is I can give you more specific pointers, but the following should help you Id it as an SP model.

It should have Sports Production legend on the fairing below the TZR

It should have black air ducting on the inside of the fairing from the air intakes on the front edge.

JIngl-jangley dry clutch (but so does the lesser RS model)

36mm carbs if it's a 91/92 model 32 mm from 93 on (RS has 28s)

SP forks and rear shock have compressiona nd rebound adjusters as well as preload (as do RS models from '93 on)

Let us know the year or post a pic and I should be able to give more specific pointers.

If it is an SP and in fair nick, you should probably grab it as they are pretty rare and an excellent bike on road and track. Check out the TZR forum link that Fontyyy posted for more info.

Cheers

Wb
