Wanted to spruce up a pair of Fireblade calipers I have to fit to my bike and was wandering for some advice on brake paint. I particularly wanted the glossy gold/silver colour that most of the GP boys have on their brembos, not the std gold that you usually get on HOnda's Nissin (nissni) calipers.
I've seen a few purpose made brake spray paints in Halfords and did think of powder coarting them, but just wondered if anyone in the trade might have an alternative option.
The brembo's are anodised when they are new but George (who has the RC30) painted his with some gold paint he got off ebay for brakes and that worked really well. I will have to talk to him about what brand it was though. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
VHT (brand) make specific caliper paint. It needs to be baked to cure, and drys to a glossy finish, and is chemical resistant once cured, and has a extremely high heat rating. Comes in heaps of colours
I have painted the calipers on my WRX red (to match STi), and they look real good.
For best result, remove caliper, find a bung for the brake line hole. Wash caliper in a parts cleaner type product, then wipe over with wax and grease remover. Do about 3 coats, 15 min apart. Bake for 10 min, then apply one more coat, bake for 30 min at about 150 C.
Ill see if i can get a pic. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
this may not apply as much to bikes, but when painting calipers on cars (and actually being concerned with performance) it's important to note that the paint on the surface may hinder the caliper's ability to shed heat
but again, these light bikes may not ever get their brakes overheating _________________ n00b
