bearing puller ????

Sun Oct 22, 2006 6:37 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just changing the gearbox bearings in the crankcase.

How do I get the needle bearing out (selector shaft exit) without damaging the surfaces?

Also the upper roller bearing seems to be pressed into the crankcase wall with no access to the back of it. Is it? and will any puller do to extract it?

Gratefull for any help (again)

They actually make pullers to remove bearing like that. Oftern they are refered to as "Pilot Bearing Remover".

for the bearing in the blind hole, get a wooden dowel or metal drift that will just fit into the bearing. Fill the bearing with grease filling any gap behind as well. Hammer the drift into the bearing and the grease will push the bearing out.
I've used this method on a few beat up spigot bearings in car cranks to good effect.

Grease method works on blind holes. Warming the cases works too.
