Fri Apr 28, 2006 7:36 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Im just intrested to know, as its a long time since i bought any plugs for a bike. When i do, will the electrode gap be set already? based on the fact ive bought the right ones (code number)? or do i need to set it myself? may seem stupid but i remeber having to set each gap for my car as all the plugs where at diffrent limits????? just qurious? also what the diffrence between a 8, 9 and 10 plug (NGK)?

You will have to check the gap, and adjust it if required.

The 8-10 numbers refer to the temperature range the plug is designed to run at. Dunno what temps they convert to, but I'm sure there's a site on the net which will tell you.

I've never seen new plugs be gapped wrongly....

And as Dave says the higher the number the hotter they can run without melting as they dissipate heat better, however the higher numbered plugs tend to foul at "normal" revs. Discussed at some length here.

Honda recommend using only BR9ECM, BR10ECM or equivalent. HRC spec the 10 and 10.5 short plug (with the front head conversion) depending on conditions.
