I've never seen new plugs be gapped wrongly....

And as Dave says the higher the number the hotter they can run without melting as they dissipate heat better, however the higher numbered plugs tend to foul at "normal" revs. Discussed at some length here.

Honda recommend using only BR9ECM, BR10ECM or equivalent. HRC spec the 10 and 10.5 short plug (with the front head conversion) depending on conditions.
