A while ago i saw a chap with a roller starter, he drove one wheel of the car onto the rollers, started the car stuck it in gear, pushed the bike onto the rollers (about 1 meter long ) beside the car, the rollers now moving moved the back wheel, he stuck it in gear droped the clutch, and it started. anyone know where you can get these? ot even a similar product, a race site etc someone must know, cheers

Why would you need one of them? The only ever bike I've not been able to bump is our bored/stroked ZX12R and we sorted that by running 24 volts.

They used to advertize in Road Racing World. I looked through some old mags and couldn't find the add. Maybe you could contact RRW.

Well thats great but have you tried bumping an rgv500? Thats bloody difficult at the best of times! Your leg gets fecked after 6 or 7 kicks, it runs from the generator - no battery, so its a real bitch to start thats why!!!

How can a 4 cylinder 2 stoke be hard to start? Even the propper GP 500's could be bumped in about 2 paces. Maybe if you were trying to bumping a CR500 up hill, in mud up to your knees you might sruggle lol

Good luck in finding one though if ya need it. We always used to park at the top of all the big hills with the CR and B50's!

I have no idea what the problem is, but the bike was hand built with Harris frame, RG motor, and some sort of advance ignition. The battery is for the horn and lights, and when it hits 8500 rpm the power valves. We spent 5 hrs at Cadwell trying to start the fecker, and it finall y started with a hefty push from Stuart (mc18) on this site.

It looks like the bike needs a fecking great big kick to get it going, and would be so much eaiser with a roller. In the mean time the bike in question (see Cadwell post from me) is off to BOB F to see if we can't make it more user freindly. Looming up on the 16th September is Donnington - we just want a good day and a roller could help big time - even for me. I'm a big pussy and get tired of kicking the MC21 over late in the afternoon when I'm knackered!

Sorry for being rude, but I'm knackered after Cadwell! Embarassed

What everybody uses at the track here is an old scooter engine bolted to a wooden board on casters, and with a go-kart wheel and tyre on it. With the bike on the rear stand you use the go-kart wheel powered by the scooter engine to bump-start the rear tyre of the bike.

Looks cool, fits in the pits and doesn't require a car handy. But you've got to make it.

I think you are missing the point. Confused The problem lies with the bike. I'm sure it should start on the kick alone. When we bumped it the engine turned with no problem at all. It started ok when the weather dried up. Idea I reckon it was due to the damp.
Any bike should start within a few turns of the engine. If it doesn't there's something wrong with the bike.

Yeah, the bike definitely has a problem.

However, you could always put together a car starter motor, fitted with a rubber wheel and attached to a large (lorry sized) battery. Cheap to build, and easy to carry round with you.

I agree that there must be some sort of problem with the bike if it consistently won't start with the first few kicks.

Dodgy pilot jet settings on the carb, or a weak ignition system. You mention some sort of trick ignition, so I would hazard a guess at the latter being more of a possibility.

It could have been down t the fuel, my mate emptyed the tank and carbs, refiled the tank with 40:1 and after 20 kicks it fired, switch it off and it started after 2 kicks, he going to take it into BDK just to be sure, the gp style starter was only down to being tired late after noon at a track.... it would help here also..... the ignition on the RG is aftermarket, the battery only works horn, brake light and power valves...we'll see....lets hope it was just the fuel! and the damp.
