Noodle running again

Sat Apr 29, 2017 4:40 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

First run today of my first NSR after total strip down of engine to find reason for excessive smoking, previous owner had engine problems. Runs like a dream now. Looking forward to some summer miles on Welsh back roads.

Noodle running again

Thanks John and Les,

I came across some cases from a later model with oil feed to RHS crank bearing so used them, other than that just a careful rebuild as most parts were replaced by previous owner. I am a bit concerned about the cylinders, they had been recently replated? but there are many areas on the thrust surfaces with no cross hatching at all. I need to either revert back to the wet clutch or obtain a good clutch gear (22130-KV3-840) for the dry clutch as mine has tooo much movement between the 2 gears and sounds rough at idle. Need some lamps then MOT Tuesday.

Martyn

Clutch

Read that as too much movement between the drive gear and the clutch basket.

Possible missmatch

Sun Apr 30, 2017 7:16 am » Post: #6 » Download Post

Hi Martin
It sounds very much like you may have a missmatch in you primary gears,MC 28 runs a 24 t crank gear and a 60 t clutch hub gear also a 25 t water pump gear, MC 21 runs 25 t primary,59 t clutch hub gear and a 26 t water pump drive ,
Only the Motor company knows why this was changed ?????,
I wouldnt ride it any more until you check it out,It sounds to me like this could be your problem,
Goodluck and keep us informed what the issue was,
jonmac.

Hi again Martyn, i didn't realise you had bought it off Mike with the motor disassembled and you had to rebuild it again, thats a shame really, considering the wet clutch motor in it had had so much money spent on it, good luck with the mot.

Engine confusion

Sun Apr 30, 2017 9:56 am » Post: #8 » Download Post

Sorry guys some confusion here.

I had to strip the engine completely as the crankshaft seal was inserted incorrectly, hence massive smoke., so I took the chance to start from scratch. The dry clutch was on the engine, the free play I have John is not between the primary gear and clutch gear but actually on the clutch gear. Holding the large gear I can move the clutch basket side to side and its not the bolts but appears to be between the riveted inner and outer parts.
Les, I appear to have parts for a wet clutch with the spares from Mike, I take it from your comments that it is a good one. I will check it out and hopefully its all there so I can go back to wet.
