swingarm swap

Wed Sep 02, 2015 10:48 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Just curious to know which Honda swingarms are interchangable with the MC16. Not measured anything thing up yet just wondered if anyone has done this in the past? The idea is to run a rear tyre of 150 or 160. Obviously lots of measurements to consider just wondered if there is a good swap without butchering the frame. Cbr400 NC23 or NC29 possibly? Honda obviously did there homework and testing and came up with the best handling set up so changing the swingarm and wheel will probably effect the handling for the worse. I am not too concerned about that at this stage. Just doing some research, thanks.

Thanks for that Jay. I am in the process of fitting a Yamaha (shock horror) TZR Belgarda swingarm. Similar to RGV Banana, virtually identical to Yamaha SZR660. Pivot to wheel spindle distance is very close to stock MC16 and shock linkage setup is close. NC23 rear wheel sits in nicely. I am modifying the swingarm bushes to accept the standard pivot bolt and not touching the frame as i want to be able to put it back to stock if i wish.

I wouldn't go for an nc23 rear wheel as it's an 18" and tyres will be a problem as I've heard Bridgestone are ceasing the bt090 & 92

I would go for a cbr400 nc29 rear wheel, it fits the nc23 with a small amount of adjustment so hopefully shouldn't be an issue for you to fit

I went for the NC23 rear wheel to keep the 18" wheel and 3 spoke look. Sprocket offset is the same as the stock MC16 wheel also so hopefully chain alignment should be trouble free. Not sure on the shock yet, the swingarm I have has very close measurements to the stock arm. Shock linkage should be simple enough with some spacers machined. I don't want to butcher the frame so a couple of top hat spacers should bring the swingarm pivot diameter back to stock to use the stock pivot bolt. Not had time to do much lately but keen to get into it.
