A2 Power to Weight

Wed Sep 23, 2015 9:11 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys
I know you are always looking to get more power out of your bikes, but is there a way to restrict a mc21 sp so it meets the 0.26 Bhp per Kg limit?

Welcome to NSR-WORLD, "jetblackonetenth".

That's a very good question, with one problem being having the bike officially certified once any work is complete.

My best guess would be an electronic resistor in the RC Valve circuit, to limit the valves from fully opening.

I really don't know how it could be made plug'n'play though, or [relatively] tamper-proof, to achieve certification.

Another idea would be a slightly different [sized] RC Valve pulley, that physically opens the valve less. This would be far more inconvenient to reverse.

Why not just add some ballast and put the bike to stock electronic form?

Thanks for the thoughts
As far a weight goes, think you would need about 40Kg of ballast
Can't find a definitive answer as to how the police / insurance co would check it

BTW these are lovely bikes, my son has just got one (Jap import) hence the question. Makes me wish I took my test when I was his age. Still, he has a spare nsr 125 now, might have to do a cbt Very Happy

It would be an interesting "project" to undertake, that's for sure.

Obviously we could provide a dyno print out of the rear wheel horsepower, once a suitable and reliable way to cap the power was developed, and you would be able to have the bike weighed (with a print out) at a VOSA testing station. Those two print-outs should do the trick, provided DVLA would accept/certify us. The problem is development takes time, and costs a lot!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a big enough [learner] market to warrant the investment. I would love to be proven wrong though. Smile

I got my calculator out and 130kg is about 34 bhp.
An Aprilia RS125 derestricted should be close to that without blunting the power delivery
MC18/21s 60bhp would be disappointing if restricted. It might be better to ride the NSR on a track at full power
