Hello All,

Bought myself my first NSR a few back after wanting one for as long as I can remember.

Thought I would post my project progress here and it's got a bit of work needed to doing to it. Below is a summary of what needs to be done and what I have done so far.

Its a 1996 SE model with 18,000kms but has been in storage for several years so was quite dirty and not running when I picked it up. Motor has been serviced, carbs/powervalves cleaned, etc.

* Bodywork is tatty - Needs to be cleaned and plastic welded in areas, currently at a bodywork specialist for cleaning and re-laquer...might even opt for a decent Chinese fairing set or get the whole set airbrushed in OEM colours.
* Fairing bolts are a mixture of random ill fitting nuts & bolts - OEM full fairing & windshield bolt kit arrived today.
* Ill fitting carbon front hugger installed - OEM front hugger arrived last week.
* Forks have some minor pitting - Will scrub them up.
* HARC Pro exhaust system has been neglected, the spannies under the fairing are caked in grease - Will get scrubbing!
* Wheels have several stone chips and tyres need replacing - Tyres on the way and wheels will be repainted.
* Top yoke has some minor scratches and the yoke nut has been painted blue (!?) - Will get the top yoke resprayed and have just recieved the OEM yoke nut.
* Previous owner lost the indicators - OEM indicators just arrived.
* No oil pump/reservoirs installed - OEM replacements and all hoses ordered, should be here this week.
* PGM unit fired (RC valve issue) - PGM unit will be sent off this week for repair.
* Clock assembly digital display is knackered - Sourcing replacement from Japan Yahoo.
* Various cables kinked/frayed - OEM replacement clutch & RC valve cables ordered, should be here next week.
* Rear seat pad lost - Will buy next month.
* Rear mudguard has been sawn off - Will buy next month.

Will get some images up soon and as I progress. Hoping that I can ride it by the end of March and have fully transformed it to near original condition by October.

The below image was taken during the first time I saw it, in need of a good clean.


After cleaning the wheels & forks. Stone chips will be touched up or may even get the wheels resprayed.


Yoke a bit untidy. Tyga stay arrived last week and yoke nut today.


Silly ill fitting fender. Got the OEM stock one last week and will be installed soon.


After a weekend of cleaning.

Update.

Got the oil pump & reservoirs installed this afternoon with new hoses throughout. Replaced all the carb hoses too. Fitted new RC valve cables. Fitted new bolts on the discs and lower forks as the old ones were a bit shabby. Fitted the repaired PGM (thanks 2Trace) but haven't started it yet...will leave that til next week.

Also the bodywork will be back on Thursday. Its been in with the body shop for a week so went along this morning to have a look. All the cracks have been repaired and looks like a really good job. They are going to fully respray the fairings and have done an amazing job masking all the stickers and lettering.

A set of Bridgestone BT003's should be here Tuesday so by next weekend the bike will be ready for action. Almost 6 weeks since I bought the bike so getting quite excited to finally ride it.

New oil pump installed.


Bottle, tubes, etc installed as well as shiny new bracket.


New RC cables.

Got the bike resprayed last week so some new pictures below.

Got a few niggly problems still with the PGM but having fun.

Spent a few hours polishing today as it was perfect outside.

Got the cans off and tried to clean them up a bit but results were not good so placed an order with Mr. HARC for a new set.

PGM should be here next week aong with 21 flywheel, HRC coils and a load of OEM kit that was missing.

Hi There Joe, very impressive a nice job the bike looks like new,it just goes to show a bit of enthusiasm and some elbow grease can transform a fairly tired looking bike into somthing like this,welldone glad to see another NSR thats gonna be around for years to come,ps would you sell your old cans?, goodluck,jonmac

Will let you know on the cans. I might keep them just in case.

21 flywheel & HRC coils arrived this morning (thanks Dan@Gecko). Need to play around with the coils a bit as the connection is different and I need to do some research on installing the flywheel, anyone have any tips?

Did some more work today as a bunch of new Honda parts arrived first thing this morning

Got the new mudguard installed as the previous owner cut the back of the old one! New & old below, got the new rear indicators and reflector installed too.



Cleaned up the rear sub frame whilst it was accessible.


Installed a bunch of new bolts on the front brakes.


New air duct. Last one was missing but saw it on the parts list and ordered it.




Looking good Ready for registration next week, just hope it passes emissions as the HARC Pro's are probably going to take it of the scale...might have to take some bribery money with me lol.

Undo the bolt in the middle of the flywheel (ideally by using a tool to hold the flywheel still, or, less ideally with an powered ratchet) and use a flywheel puller to remove the flywheel.

Can the flywheel be inserted incorrectly? I'm a little bit worried about putting it in wrong...
