Tires

Thu Dec 10, 2015 12:32 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,
My last few sets of tires have been Bridgestone Battlax BT-003 RS that I've enjoyed on track days. I could squeeze one more day out of the current set but prefer a new pair.

It appears this particular compound is being discontinued, but seems like it may have been handed off to Shinko. Having no experience I'm not sure I am comfortable putting them on for a track day unless I can get some feedback from a few folks on the forum.

I see that the BT-003RS is being replaced by the S20. I'm certainly open to other brands as well. BUT.....I seem to have run into a bit of a delema over here in the states.....I have not been able to find a store (online or local) that has them for our NSRs. No Bridgestones, Pirelli, Michilen, Dunlap, or even Shenko.

I fear that because there are virtually no current sport bikes being sold with tires in this range, it is becoming harder and harder to get a compound for track days. Maybe it is just due to end of year inventories being low and soon the shelves will be full???? Or is it that lack of tires, not crankshaft seals will be the demise of our NSR track days. Maybe this is just an issue here in US because small bikes are not as popular.

I admit that I did find on set of BT003s, but I suspect they could have been on the shelves for a while so Im a bit skeptical.

Looking for feedback and potential sourcing info from fellow members. If I need to I am willing to import from overseas. Next track day is in March at COTA.

These get great reviews that I have seen, sadly not available in the UK but you should be able to get them in the U.S.

I am currently using the above recomended Dunlop Alpha on my MC28 and agree that they are an excellent choice.

I really wish they were available in the UK. They offer an 18" rear which is rare and would be perfect for my track bikes. About my only current option is the bt090

I was in the same situation looking for BT003 in SF only to find that they were discontinued. I ended up buying some Bridgestone S20 from motorcyclesuperstore online. CT Racing also had Pirellis in our size, and CycleGear had BT016 available.

I'm in Chicago and buy all my tires from sportbiketrackgear.com. Usually Pirelli Supercorsa SC1&2s. Last I checked, a lot of stuff was out of stock, but as you said, it's off-season. I expect that to change soon, if it hasn't already. They list a number of 150s.
