MC-21, rear cowl removal

Fri Nov 13, 2015 10:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello Guys,

I apologise if this question has been asked previously or is trivial in nature but I'm having some issues removing the rear cowl/side covers.

I have the original Honda key that works and turns in the lock, however the storage compartment in the seat area will not open. When I remove all four bolts from the side covers the assembly/s will not come off.

I'm assuming that I have omitted a step!

Thank you for your help guys.

Regards, Frank

Yeah, you could have a bit of a problem there, if the little panel [with the lock in] won't come off.

There are 2x M6 flanged bolts (10mm hex head) that secure the glove box to the subframe, accessible only once the panel is off. Those need to be removed, along with the 4 exterior fasteners holding the side panels on, to get the seat unit off.

I have managed to get one off before, it was many years ago now so I can't remember how I did it.

Hello Andy/nxsr20,

Thanks for the reply. The lockabale compartment behind the seat was being stubborn, but eventually it opened. Once the two bolts that tie into the sub frame were removed the rear assmebly came off ok!

I've noticed the sticker on the rear sub frame (which is still there) and defines the original colour of the bike!

My MC-21 is a 1990 "R" version:

My bike VIN is "MC21-102...."

COLOR "R-109"

CODE "R109B"

I understand it is NOT the SE or SP version, but an R, originally with an overall white colour with red markings. This is further reinforced as there is factory red over-spray on the underside of the tank. Some scratches in the seat area show a red colour is lutking below the non-factory repray.

Can anybody confirm what colour the rims would have originally been?

Thanks guys

Cheers, Frank

The wheels would've been white.
