My New Bike

Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:30 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey all, iv just got me a NSR250 1989 (i do Believe its a MC18 R5K but i could be mistaken) and i have a few problems.
First of all i cannot for the life of me get it to go into neutral, i have tried adjusting the clutch but it doesnt make any differance.
Secondly it doesnt start with the key, i have to kick start it but i am thinking that is to do with it not being in neutral.
Lastly, no matter how slowly i let out the clutch and how many revs i hav the bike doing i cant let the clutch out fully because it stalls.
Basically i cannot ride my new bike!!

Please HELP ME!!

i cant help with the other stuff but all NSR250s are kick start i am afraid, none will start with just the turn of the key....

could your other problems be that your clutch is knackered Question

if you are like me and new to these smokers, youll need to give it plenty revs to pull away otherwise like me youll stall it, youll get use to it and start knowing how to pull away slowly with out reving the tits off it, will she go into netural when its all switched off? clutch could be gone, but while its switch off you should still be able to select netral. kick start is a pain until you get the knack, i couldnt do it at first but now 2nd kick when cold, and first or second when hot, easy, dont try to hard!

could it be the gearbox stuck in a high gear? It will stall when trying to pull off. If thats the case run start it on a small hill then you can check Confused if it changes gear

hey where in nz are u. did u get the one of trade me lately for $2660.

as stated it may be in 2nd or higher so take off could be a problem. stand the bike up and roll if forward and if it stops its in gear so release the tension it the chain and click it down a gear utill it feels like its down as far as it goes and then take it up half a click. that should be nuetral. should start easy now(by kicking) then its one down to 1st and 5 up to 6th.

you better find out if it has the shift patten reversed, the racers have it that way and if it is then your thinking its in first and its in sixth and this will also make the bike stall as your trying to pull away in sixth, try clinking it up in to what should be sixth and see if you find first there.

Cheers to all of you for helping me out, i will have a look and see if i can find first where sixth should be but if thats not the case i guess im buying a new clutch before i get new fairings! I have had no problems kick starting it while holding the clutch in so maybe it just needs carefull adjusting. we shal see

I had a similar issue with my MC16 when I first got it, the shift pattern was reversed! I felt pretty silly when I finally figured that out... But neutral is still not the easiest to find. Good Luck, Curtis

wlee glen also does an aprila rs 250 body kit to fit the mc21 or rick from rp racing does a honda rs 250 kit for the 21 as well , pretty good local support for a small country like nz
but tyga is very competitive on price with both those guys and starting to see a few 400s round with their gear on
-still think the standard bodywork is pretty sharp to tho

Im not really sure what type of fairings i want to get yet, i still have to save up some cold hard before i look into that too seriously.

Cheers all, ride on!
