MC28 HRC card and PGM conversion....finally!

Sat Jan 03, 2015 12:41 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Finally got the HRC conversion done on my bike, not easy but got there in the end. Nice to see the recognition on the clocks when the card goes in, SP HRC! (pic 5705) then it sets to the temp and card type (pic 5706), my card is a 010. Have to admit, I didn't realise it showed that on the clocks. Good news is it makes a real difference to the performance, immediately!
Biggest surprise for me though is the standard card also seems to work!? and the clocks set to the different screen which looks more like the standard card screen when the standard card is used (pic 5708) the bike runs perfectly fine as well!... Does anyone else have the same with a HRC card set up?
Cheers

Yep, all sounds normal to me. Make sure you get it to a dyno or get jetted sorted before running with the new card though.

I'm not surprised it's noticeably better, and expect you've seen maybe a 25% increase just about everywhere. However, as Leigh advises, it's imperative you check the jetting.

A "bog stock" MC28 with just an HRC card is one of the few things we've had the luxury of testing on the dyno, but I can tell you that the HRC card modifies the RC Valve operation, the ignition, and the air correction (as it's meant to be used with open carbs). Therefore, it's vitally important the jetting's at the very least checked.

There may well be much less of a gap between the stock settings and an almost stock bike with "just" an HRC card, but I would be mind-blown if they weren't different enough to be able to run both cards at will, with no other changes! I expect once set up properly for the HRC card, the performance with the stock card would be noticeably less usable.
