New member sadly having to ask advice already

Hi, signed up about a week ago and own a 1990 NSR 250 R7L ,I have owned this a couple months now and purchased it after a full rebuild? however on riding I found gear change was stiff and difficult to find neutral I put it down to incorrect clutch adjustment and stiffness after rebuild ,after further rides and adjustments no better so I took the gearbox out only to find that the oil/water pump drive gear has started to break up with the sheared teeth in the bottom edge of the gearbox and in oil filter, lucky I found it otherwise possible engine seize if it stripped completely, I am not sure if this could possibly be the cause of poor gear change but I am in the process of checking the gearbox and fitting new friction/steel plates, This brings me back to the oil/water pump drive Gear, I have been onto David silver and they say the drive is discontinued and gave me a part number 19215 KF3 770 I cannot seem to source one anywhere .

So here I am asking you guys if you can help.

Thanks. Rolling Eyes

Hi Thomas and welcome to the forum. I was looking for that part a while ago. It was tough to come by as, yes, they are discontinued. I ended up finding a nice used one in great condition. I'd offer it to you, but it's the only one I have and may need it in the future. However, a member on here by the name of quickninja said he had a new one that he was willing to part with. I never ended up buying it from him as communication was not great. Try him, maybe you'll have better luck dealing with him than I did.

Hi MEM, thanks for your reply . I may have found a second hand one not far from me from a member on this forum. You are right about tough to find and may be wise to stock up if these are prone to failing?

Regards

John

This part does seem to be a common failure, but I guess you can't expect much a piece of 25 year old neoprene

What I'd be interested in knowing is if the MC28 part is the same dimensions, as it's still available
