Steering Head Bearings Replacement

Mon May 07, 2012 3:40 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

My steering is quite loose and the front end clicks when I push down on the forks, so I'm going to replace the steering stem/head bearings on my MC21. My friend is going to help me as I've never done it before. Can someone please confirm the parts I need? He suggested:

91016KT8005 - Headpipe bearing
91051KT8005 - Headpipe bearing
53214371010 - Dust seal
53214KA4701 - Dust seal

Cheers.

Yes, those part numbers look right.
Have a look in the Parts Manual section of the forum for your specific model and find all of your info!
Good luck with the head bearings, and have fun.

The clicking sound will also be caused by cold floating front rotors loose on their centres.

No doubt the steering bearings may need replacing or at least greasing and re-torquing but keep that in mind once done and the clicking noise remains.

I replaced my steering bearings with roller bearings instead of the original ball ones, you can find them easy in auctions sites and are exactly equivalent ones but more durable and stronger. Pay attention for the bottom one, there are sealed and unsealed versions and the sealed one is what you need.

If you want to take the taper roller route, here are a couple part numbers.

Koyo 32006JR (lower bearing) & NTN 4T-CR-0574(top bearing).

Stay away from the Chinese bearings offered on the well known auction site... a complete waste of time.
