MC16 Track Toy Rebuild

Sun May 08, 2005 7:24 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, I just picked up an 87 that I plan to strip down/rebuild and use for a little bit of track fun.

A few questions:
-Anyone know where to pick up race bodywork for a decent price?
-where are most people sourcing parts for the MC16? most places that turned up on my googles (and searching the forum) show listing for later models.
-I think the rear shock is beyond hope - are most people replacing them with later model shocks? perhaps a shock from another make bike? or even aftermarket?
-if anyone out there wants to unload some parts/pieces (aftermarket or OEM) please drop me a line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

btw, since this is for the track, a lot of non-essential parts will be coming off and up for grabs if anyone is interested... stay tuned.

hey i was going to do the same coz i picked up a 16 for cheap. but the thing u really want to do is change the suspension front (for later model se/sp) and rear(not sure what would fit) the 16 suspensin is pretty poor. guessing u are not to serious a racer like myself. ended up getting a 21 frame for cheap and am busy poaring money into that. hope u have fun building it. Laughing

hey, thanks for the tip.
you're partly right... Im not too serious about racing this mc16 (yet). I'm currently pouring money into my '03 rc51 - so the nsr is sort of a side project.

so the idea is to build this nsr up for as little $ as possible (within reason, while still doing it right, ie. not cutting too many corners).

So, if I sourced out a MC18 or + front end, would it just bolt on? can't imaging the rear shock would... probably have to swap swingarm too huh?

Yeah! You'd better get the suspension sorted first.

i,ve just finished fitting an MC21 front end, and a MC18 rear to my 16.
the 21 fits with just a swop of the stems. the 18 rear only needs a small spacer made up to fit. you loose the speedo putting on the 21 front, but i,m working on that one. its worth the work to uprate the suspension and brakes. you also get wider rubber Very Happy you can also fit the 21 17"rear wheel.
