Bought an MC18 in bits. It was a track bike in it's former glory and my plan is to put it back on the track. I haven't been on a track in quite a few years myself. Too many to admit. Though i've always wanted an NSR so you can guess my age.
And i finally figured out how to reduce a photo file size enough to add as an attachment. Now only if i could figure out how to attach a full size photo and not a thumbnail? _________________ MC21R9N track

This progress may seem fast but these are older photos. There's not much fast about this project so far. Just getting caught up to current. Not there yet. Next batch is front end which is already fitted.
Can somebody please tell me how to upload a full size photo instead of a thumbnail? _________________ MC21R9N track

I do it by uploading photos to a site such as photobucket and then you use the code that looks someting like this:
Front end was previously sent out for rebuild by prior owner. Here it is installed with front wheel.
Front wheel has new bearings, seals, aluminum spacer kit. Powder coat and fresh rubber.
And i had the rotors powder coated. Mistake! Now i know that powder coat will melt under high heat. This will need to be removed and reprayed with high temp paint.
Sorted out engine mounts.
Not a difficult task but complicated with all the parts lumped together in a box. They need a goood cleaning next. _________________ MC21R9N track

Rear brake caliper rebuild begins:
Caliper cleaned and painted with high temperature paint. Then baked in the oven to cure paint:
Rebuild parts ordered.
And another order placed after cleaning pad retainer pin and realized it was knackered. (What no frustrated emoticon?) _________________ MC21R9N track

Front brake caliper rebuild begins:
I'm getting real good at taking things apart!

Steps & levers given a good once over:
Before:
After:
Brakelight switch connection removed. Mounting bracket is homemade replacement and flimsy. There is evidence of it hitting the swingarm. Not too happy about that. Looking for replacement but they are not stock. Maybe go back to stock mounts?

dremel to remove burrs and casting lines. steel wool with WD40 to act as solvent. 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper over dremel marks. elbow grease. certainly the dremel and sandpaper tales off the anodizing. though i don't think the steel wool does. if the bike were to spend any time in the wet, or even outside under cover it should probably be coated with something to keep the aluminum from oxidizing. wax would suffice short term. I read about a product someone used after vapor blasting an engine on a thread here somewhere. it's low on my priority list right now. _________________ MC21R9N track

Rear master cylinder rebuilt:
Not happy with the fit of the brake lever to the master cylinder. Looking for new rearset brackets to replace this homemade version:
Front master cylinder rebuild is next:
Tank is not rusty on the inside but needs a good cleaning of gummed up deposits. The pink HONDA sticker has got to go. Got to decide on paint schemes???
Pink is gone. Feeling much better now. The white paint is not in too bad condition but leanign toward gray/black.

Not much progress lately. Summer time is here. Getting in a little road riding, woods riding with the boy. And for the missus a bathroom renovation. But got to clean up engine mounting fasteners and rebuilt engine installed. Still waiting for a replacement wet clutch basket from MM. On the proverbial slow boat now. I greased all the bolts and fittings up well. Do you guys tie wire or locktite these fasteners? Or just grease? I've done MX bikes and always used grease alone with no problems.

Fabricated these suspension links and found they worked exactly as advertised. Raised the rear end in excess of 1". I have an MC21 17" rear wheel and thought this to be a good idea. But found this interfered with the mounting of the expansion chambers. The expansion chambers i have are after market. Silencers are Dogfight. So maybe expansion chambers are too? I ended up going back to stock rear suspension linkage so as to avoid that problem. I guess i'll get it going and get some time on it to see how significant this linkage change would be.
