Dry Clutch smell.

Sun Jan 30, 2011 12:29 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys, I just did my first track day at Broadford yesterday, and after the last few sessions there was a weird 'egg' smell coming from the clutch. My bike is a SE model so has the dry clutch and had before the track day new plates, new springs, new pressure plate, new inner and new outer. Would the smell come from these components 'bedding in'?

Cheers.

You didn't thrash the hell out of the clutch from new? Is it slipping?
If the answer is no and no, I myself wouldn't be too worried about a faint smell coming from a new clutch.

Its not slipping and I wouldnt say i thrashed it, but one session the clutch adjuster nut worked loose and i lost the use of the clutch. i came straight into the pits but still maybe damage was done?

The adjuster nut coming loose and loosing clutch would not hurt the clutch.
How long was the smell there ?

I don`t think it is anything to worry about .Do you have free play on your clutch ?
I`d say just beding in . If it is regoed take it for a ride and see if it still smells . At the track you are fairly hard on most commponents .
