MC21-MC28 COMPATIBILITY

Sun Jun 27, 2010 12:06 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,

Will an MC28 fuel tank fit an MC21 frame and subframe without any mods?
Also, will an MC21 front headlight work with an MC28 fairing?

Thanks

Both are interchangeable, but both are slightly different.

The MC21 fuel tank has different lugs on the sides to accommodate the pins on the seat unit, but the front and rear mounts are the same, and the MC28 headlight is a slightly different shape, but will fit. (MC28 headlight is raked back more than the MC21 item.)

Just the thought of such a thing makes my skin crawl.

I know '18 bits are hard to come by but thats taking it too far!

I cant believe people would waste decent MC28 parts on a MC18....I will take the MC28 tank off your hands and find a MC18 tank far easier to replace it Wink...if not an old fizzy tank would look good on an MC18!

You kow I am only kidding....I love all NSR's but have a soft spot for one particular model that others dont share with me...bothered? NOT. Wink

On a serious note, there is a MC18 tank up for sale on a fairly popular website at the moment. Wink

Not uncommon for people to try and drag an 18 out of the dark ages with obviously superior 28 parts. Most are just too embarrased to admit it....

Ooh, an '18 bashing thread Shocked

Power wise in anything like stock or easily modified form drunkenb might have a point, though Honda did reckon gearing changes and better mid range meant the stock '28 was no slower despite being missing 5 bhp.
Handing though isn't as good and unless you swap that rear wheel for one from a '21 and do something with the suspension you can't get really good tyres.

Wayne once said (back when '18s were very cheap) the best way to spend £500 and go faster if you had a '28 was to buy an '18, conversely I'd say the best few hundred quid you could spend on an '18 would be a '21 frame, swingarm and rear wheel. The rest of the bits you can probably buy/sell or swap.
