TYGA Sprocket Holder Photo and question

Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:16 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Was trying to fit the new lighter rear alloy sprocket holder that Tyga supply and had a question. As its not threaded like the standard steel Honda one, what are people using as a nut?

Normal nuts seem too deep for the length of the thread on hand (check pic) and I suspect shallow ones may lack the torque required?

Thanks

Are those cap screws from the mc 18 ? On my 18 carrier they look the same as yours except that they screw into the carrier and on my 21 it is a bolt and nut system .

I can post a pic this afternoon

That would be great Neal. I have an MC21 wheel here that shared the same setup to the MC18 so I had thought they were interchangeable

I have roughly measured the weight diiference on the kitchen scales....the original setup weighs approx 1.5kg and the lighter sprocket with the Tyga carrier weighs approx 750gms. This was a surprise as in hand the original feels a lot heavier. The lightweight alloy spacer kit I forgot to weigh before installing but perhaps another 200grams saved so approx a kilo all up.

These are pics of the later MC21 arrangement.....are the threads able to be removed? Or are they a part of the sprocket? Seems limited for choice when racing? Maybe I wont be able to use my lightweight sprocket afterall.

Just press the inserts out and back into the new sprocket.

Thanks Andy appreciate the response....can you identify the threaded sprocket inserts in this parts list for me?

I'm assuming part number 2 is the rubber insert for the 5 sprocket bolts?

The inserts come ready pressed in to the sprocket... that's why you press them out and fit them to the new one!

http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1926511/http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1926529/hi geeza ,you can see the difference between the two models , the 18 screws into the carrier and the 21 bolts onto it . The 21 sprockets need a bigger hole for the bolt to go through . You need to clean out those holes on your sprocket so the nuts don't get jammed .

Neal I have bought a secondhand MC21 sprocket as the nuts I need don't look to be an item you can buy separately. Where did you get your sprocket carrier looks very minimalist.
