NSR250 Forums Hacked.

Wed Mar 23, 2005 6:26 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Today at approx 13:52 PST the Forums were hacked into, a mass email was sent using the forum software, and then the forums, and posts were deleted.

I reverted back to my last good backup (March 18 around approx 15:00 PST), so we lost a couple days of posts.

Sorry for the inconvience, and I am working to make sure this security hole isn't available in the future.

Thanks,

I have the two IP addresses used to get in. I am thinking they are spoofed, and it was really one user using two seperate spoofed IP addresses to break through a security hole in the forum software.

I have patched the software, as well as added some additional security above and beyond the forums own.

of course in the end, if someone wants to get in, and has nothing better to do, they will. Since the site contains nothing worth "stealing" I don't see a hacker taking the time to do the extra work that would be needed.

Thanks

They don't need to steal anything, they just hate seeing happy people.

I got one of the e-mails and realised it was dud straight away. Glad you managed to back up.

Ye, I wish I had backed up Sunday night, or Monday night!

I think I will set a cron job to do a daily backup of the DB so that way I don't need to do it manually.

Then I can just knock out the old ones, and keep the latest ones available for restore if I need to.

Thanks

Yeah, gotta agree with you.
I wasn't working for the last 11 months and had very little to do and lots of time on my hands - at east I have enough of a life to not do that kind of malicious stuff.

Pity the fool... must be someone called adrian.... ?

Confused there is always somthin to steal on a database, Your e mail addresses have probably been sold on to the spam groups, 5 cents each for valid addresses. it all adds up.
