hi all have just orderd topend rebuild kit for my mc 18 as the shop that has my bike are as good as usless 2 weeks and they now tell me they cant get head gaskets,i rang jap4performance and what a great/helpfull guy [cheap to] i told him that they were c cylinders [as they have c cast on them] but he said he only lists one type of pison kit,to fit mc 18 what do you guys think,i have nearly had enough of this bike now, _________________ NSR250 MC18
Just use MC21/28 pistons if you are struggling to get MC18 ones. They are almost identical but have a shorter skirt. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
thanks for your reply this piston size/clearence thing and a/b/c barrel thing is starting to really put me off this bike,he said that they only have one type listed/genuine honda parts, the mc 18 WILL be even rearer if this goes on much longer,i just wana ride the thing, _________________ NSR250 MC18
Most 2 stokes have a number of pistons avaliable to them.
Get in there and buy some and get it back on the road. Like I said you can use all the MC21/28 ones so it will be easy to sort out. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Hi Huntin
Where abouts in east angular are you, I'm in the Cambridge area if you want a hand doing the top end.
I wouldnt have a lot of faith paying someone to do it if they cant even order gaskets and pistons!
thanks for reply guys,i am near lowestoft/beccles area and thanks or offer paul, after it seazed up [firstday/2miles down the road]i rebuilt it the next day with some old spare pistons i got with bike,it was all done ready to start, but as ididnt want to mess it up i [folishly] gave it to local shop to CHECK over,2 weeks ago, they stripped it back down and said we need to order gaskets [head/base/exhaust] then we will check oil pump etc and you can have it back,i went in today to collect it and they say they cant get head gaskets so tonight i rang jap4performance and he had the hole kit instock so as i just want the dam thing running i orderd it,but as i said he only has one type listed for mc18,but my luck it wont be right, my barrels fitted i think are c as bottom one has c cast on base of barrel and b stamped on and bottom barrel also has c cast on it and nothing else,i under stand that the smallest piston will fit all three [a,b,c,]and be ok on clearence, but what if the only kit listed is the largest piston cos it wont fit b and c barrels,so,i just want the bike right and running, _________________ NSR250 MC18
You know what. There wasn't a full stop in that whole thing. I almost ran out of breath! _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Sorry to cut in on this topic, but I was told StephenRC45 may be able to help with an MC18 crank rebuild for my bike - same general issues as HUNTN1. I don't know of any other way to get hold of him so hence the post! Still looking for a full MC18 engine, but getting fed up with waiting so may need to go the crank rebuild/rebore/replate/new pistons route. Can you help with this?
I have even befriended a Japanese bloke here in Mancehster to help on Yahoo Japan Auctions...but no joy yet.
fwiw, on the advise of Tyga i've rebuilt my 16 with mc21 pistons and have had no issues. rebuild was about a year.
If anyone is interested in shipping from australia, i have a MC18 bottom end thats surplus as well as 1 new cylinder and a couple of used cylinders that are now longer needed. Dry clutch from the bottom end is staying here for the 21
Hi Sorry to hear of your problems . I got a my head gaskets and rings from Tippets of Surbiton phone No 0208 3997449, they are the main Honda supplier in the South. My mate could get his pistons & rings from them too .It would help if you have the part numbers to hand when phoning.
hi mr howl the sarga goes on with the bike,[your old bike]i am also sorry for lac of full stops stephen rc45,here are some spares ..................lol,well lets just hope that the pistons fit cos i just want to ride the dam thing, the slow 2 miles i did get to ride it were nice, and was impressed just how responsive the bike was [handling].felt a lot sharper than my nc 29,and im 6ft2 and it fitted me well, after i adjusted gear/break pedal ,i had the same luck when i imported my evo,the crank went ,as soon as i got it and was hassel, but if its worth having its worth fighting for,
