top end power and revs mc21

Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

started to notice the bike was not revving too cleanly and struggles between 9-12k allthough it will do it and was feeling a little restricted on a recent ride out, i had a base gasket leak so initially put it down to that but after having the barrels off and replacing the base gaskets the hesitation remains.

checked the pv's and adjustment and all is fine, servo does cycles to full open, recent full rebuild and everthing looks good, the bike does feel like it wants to go but is being strangled. Plugs are ok, fuels good.

bike was performing fine on dyno recently and prob just seems to of crept up,

could it be blocked power jet/s?, i will of course check but just wanted a few other ideas.

further suggestions geatefully recieved

I set the PV's up and revved the the bike to 10k plus on the stand and the PV servo went to full open, so it says to me the TPS is working ok.

just been thinking, the coolant leak I had was dumping crap all over the underneath of the engine, the rear cylinder base gasket was leaking so it was most filthy on the flywheel side, perhaps some of the crap has got in behind the cover and dirtied the pick ups?? I'll have to check tonight.

I know it will be something simple, it always is

well the battery is fine, the rectifier's charging at 14v, the pickups and flywheel are clean, the wire splice is good, i've cleaned the fuel filter in the tank, taken the carbs off and cleaned them out inc the power jets, re sealed the airbox rubbers, cleaned and checked the gap on the spark plugs, the pv's line up and servo moves to all positions, all pies are where they shouldbe and still the bike is not doing much from 10k rpm onwards, its like it wants to rev but is being held back. i cant think of anything else to try?

cant imagine anything has thrown the jetting out and can think of nothing else to try, any suggestions folks?? Crying or Very sad

have you kinked any fuel/air hoses, including hoses to solenoids? Any blockages in hoses?

Your exhausts are relatively clean and not full of fuel or carbon?

Don't mind me, I'm just a heckler in the back Smile

nah nothing like that, everything is sound, runs fine up to 10k, if i was a betting man i'd say power valves but there is nothing wrong, just had the chamber off and double checked them

The only thing I can suggest that you've not already checked is to whip the exhausts off and make sure that the rc valves are actually opening up fully. Mine was adjusted right but the valves werent opening fully! Some wear somewhere so i gave it a bit more adjustment until they were opening fully and now its like a different bike! Very Happy

Give it a go!

Paul

if you've had your exhausts off many times, have you sealed the exhausts and the flanges aren't leaking?

Have you checked that your PJ solenoids are working?

Are your airbox-carbie-reed inlet seals cracked and leaking? You won't pick this up unless you take them off and flex them to look for any cracks.

Have you done anything with the airbox? It's never going to give much of a rush with a stock one.

If you've opened it up and not jetted to suit, that will restrain it too. There's no reason why a '21 in good shape and derestricted shouldn't make low 60's and peak around 11,500rpm.
