Will NF5 heads fit the standard MC18 barrells and if they do is it really worth the expense and agro?

Don't get me started on the invention of Satan! Very Happy

MC18 heads are pretty good already... although you can use a rear on the front, just like with the MC21 and MC28, if you wish.

Not much wrong with MC18 heads as Andy says.

I had RS barrels and heads on one of my motors for a while. It was nice having the O rings but I wouldn't have them over a good set of NSR barrels.

There are a few things that, on paper, make the RS barrels and heads look way ahead of NSR ones including:

  • O-ring heads

  • True centre-mounted spark plugs

  • RC Valve design and adjustment

But when you can get the same power from NSR components it kind of makes it hard to justify the expense and hassle of fitting the RS parts. The NF5 RC Valve setup is a pain in the ass on an NSR as it needs all the actuation linkages and control cables for example, and the deck heights are wrong too, as the barrels are designed for the shorter single-ring HRC pistons (and usually AVGAS).

Waaaaaay better off modifying the NSR barrels and heads unless you have the time, knowledge, experience, and facilities to make use of the RS parts. Even then, NOTHING so far can reliably beat well modified original HRC spec 90~91 NSR250 barrels!

The RS barrels themselves just bolt on.
