MC18 Rear Sub frame

Mon Nov 17, 2008 9:01 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

First of all hi guys , i have been reading this forum for a while but thiught it was time to join. I 've just bought an MC18 of a friend who has had it in his shed for a few years after putting it in a ditch. Its a little sorry for itself with no bodywork and a slightly bent fork, however the biggest issue was the lack of subframe which was badly twisted so he threw it away.
The plan is to trackday the bike maybe with a daylight MOT. Tyga bodywork, although they only appear to do road fairings but i can always get busy with the fibreglass kit. Biggest problem is that they don't do a sub frame kit for it like they do for 21/28. Does anyone know if i can use the MC21 tyga subframe kit with minimal alteration or perhaps i am going to have to get a bespoke one made?

MC18 and MC21 subframes are very different.
The MC18 has all four mounts on the frame, MC21 has upper pair of mounts of the upper shock mount, lower pair off the frame.

Put a WTB in the classifieds. Someones gotta have one...

was thinking of getting the same seat unit for my 18, my only worry ( aside from the sub frame issue) is that the 21 frame spars are slightly wider appart ,so would the part of the seat that sits on the frame spars be too wide for the 18. maybe its flexible enough to be pulled in alittle???

emailed matt at tyga, and with some modifying to the mc18 with a hacksaw and a welder it could be made to fit. or you could modify the tyga subframe to fit the 18 frame.

looking at the tyga sub frame the lower mounts onto the frame look to be pretty similar. and on the top ones that mount above the shock, you could quite easily extend the box section to reach the original mounts on the 18 frame, just use small box section and insert it into the tyga sub frame and adust it to length and angle of the seat unit. the either bolt it all up or weld it. jobs a good un.
plus by using the tyga kit you get the mounts for the reg/rec ,battery and pgm unit.[/img]
