Is the main reason to run a bigger tire/rim with this when compared to the NSR MC28 SSA?

The MC28 arm can take a 5.5 inch rim from an RS250 bike with a 170/60-17 tyre...

Makes sense. Are these easy to come buy in your part of the world? In the US I'd have better luck finding parts for the Titanic!

Changes to the RVF pro-arm were;
The mounting point on the arm for the shock.Originally two.Cut them off and mount one in the centre for the original NSR gas shock.
The two plates (unitrack) that connect the shock to the pro arm.We made them a touch smaller to get the shock running at the rite angel.
The pivot where the arm is attatched to the frame is slightly larger. We machined up two boots so the original NSR shaft would slide through.
The wheel is the original 17" magnezium from the RVF and the tyre is a 180 that I thru onit purely for the mod.
Thats it .Bobs yer uncle ?

I've just fitted the pro-arm conversion from the 35 as per maximum's information and it fits a treat.
Not sure which tyre to fit yet; if I go 160, I will have to find a 3.5" front to take a 120 tyre?
Ride height and alignment is all good. Now looks like a 28 just faster!

David,

You can squeeze a 120 on the front rim but it's not advised. The 120 pinches the sidewall when mounted and makes the NSR steer like a truck. I just binned my 120 front and mounted some fresh Michi Pilot race rubber. 160 med. rear and a 110 soft front. The 110 looks proper on the rim and it has transformed the bikes handling. The steering is spot on now and very predictable. It rides a bit nicer too as the 110 sidewall is taller and it allows some flex.

What a difference new tires can make...

I've just spent 2 days thinking about tyres. Stock size tyres are good if you have stock size rims. It's all very difficult when you have different widths and diameters and you can't work out which wheels to put on which bike.
I'm just going to suck it and see!

I've said before I've run a 120 on a 3" rim and not had a problem, but it is a 120/70 which may make a difference.

A lot of it is also down to suspension setup and steering angle.

I've ridden an MC21 with a 120 front (on an RVF400 front-end, c/w 3.5" front rim) and the handling was abysmal, but I've also ridden an MC21F3 with a hand cut 120 slick on a standard 3" Enkei rim (160 on the rear), and it was an absolute peach!

The HRC suspension/angles make all the difference. If you are mixing'n'matching suspension components and wheel widths, then it will probably take a lot of twiddling until it's right, but you should be able to get it to work within reason.

I really can't see the point of anything bigger than a 160 on the rear though, and to be perfectly honest, any reason to run anything other than 110/150 -- maybe a 115 on the front if you want to run slicks and it's the closest size you can get. Even the F3 is running 110/150 now, and you'll be hard pushed to find an NSR that handles and turns any better. Racer38 was the last person on here to ride it; maybe he'll care to comment on its handling.

I don't know how things are in the UK but 110/150 tires are hard to come by in the US...price wise and vendor supply

I am switching for that reason. I am running a CBR F2 Rear wheel and Honda CBR F3 front. Reworked SP forks. I can get middleweight take offs for 100 USD for track days and such. Plus I can get Honda CBR F2/F3 wheels all day here in the states.

I will have a report on the set-up later in my build thread.
