Oil pump failures. why?

Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:25 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi everybody!

as mentioned before my oil pump had a problem thats why i'm running premix...

What are the reasons that make the oil pump failure?

except the obvious but rare as you say problem with the sprocket...

Could a damaged pgm make the oil pump not working properly?

I'm asking this because with the wires and all that it seems they have a connection but why?

That doesn't mean it can't happen...

mine was not flowing and anybody could figure it out

Stupid me i should video everything so you could see what i mean.

I know 2-3 NSR's here in greece having the same problem.

now i am waiting some jets to adjust the carburation because of the premix and the wiresplice/open airbox mods i want to do.

Andy, thanks for the update in the carburation section it will help...

Jet kits coming??

No, it doesn't mean it can't happen, but the only "fault" I've ever personally seen or heard of, is the oil seal slipping down the shaft allowing the 2T to drain into the gearbox!

I would suspect the most likely cause of a failure to be contaminated oil blocking the filter in the bottom of the oil tank, but it's difficult to comment on when failure is so uncommon.

The flow at idle is extremely low. I don't know the figures off-hand (they may be in the manual), but I suspect visually it would appear as if the pump is broken; the feed is that slow.

Everything you say is right i havent removed it so nobody knows...

But we checked it and in high rpm's with the mechanism wide open and only a tiny little oil ball (dont know how else to describe it) . I will buy one thought and strip it down, chek it, untill it is perfect and then install it cause 3% oil is lots of money...

maybe a good idea is to have the oil pump in situ and add a very small amount of oil in the gas tank.

The oil seal isn't available from Honda. Apparently it's the same size as some SeaDoo part or something, but I've never had to replace one, so don't know off hand!

I've suggested in the past to clean the oil seal and its housing thoroughly with white spirit or similar, and then smear a very small amount of RTV sealant on the seal to act as a bonding agent to hold the seal in place. It seems to work.

Then the problem seems it can be solved...

So, as you say we just have to make this seal stick there!

I asked my Dad to contact their company's seal supplier.
They can supply this seal, that sized seal comes in 2 slightly different elastomer rubber types, signified by the colour. (apparently G usually refers to blue, as opposed to black). Phil or Fenton, just reconfirm what colour the seal is, Fent's pic looks black? These seals are now all rubber, rather than metal - rubber, but that won't make any difference. The supplier said they are on the shelf, cost approx. £3.00 they think.

Phil, I'm overseas later today for 2.5 weeks. You can call my Dad (John) directly at JP Plant Hire on 01977 683324, if you want him to get you some seals before I get back.
