Magtek Wheels....

Tue May 27, 2008 11:37 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys

Can someone tell me the weight difference between standard and the Magteks?

I have one of my jap imports with a rear but needs painting and tidying up, was wondering if it is worth the hassle for a (potentially) minimal weight saving?

Cheers

Mark

It's about 500g per wheel, not much but it is rotating unsprung weight.

Also if you plan on selling it ever an SP without Magteks stands out a mile off as a fake.

Thanks Fontyy, it is an R model with a manky magtek on it.

I have noticed a slight buckle in in the rim too, which is why i wondered about the difference and the cost / benefit.

can you tell the difference when riding, magtek to standard? 0.5 of a kilo in rotating weight would almost be noticable wouldn't it?

Cheers

Mark

I weighed my wheels (standard and Magtek) a couple years ago and I thought I posted the results. You might do a search. I just weighed my RS wheels and they are silly light! The tire weigh almost three times as much. I have a front magtek on the shelf if you want me to weigh it.

Can be a RS250 Rear Wheel (Single Arm Model) fitted to a MC28...? I thing that the RS250 wheels where 5,50 inches...Is this possible...?

Cheers

The front Magtek weighs about 13 lbs according to my scale, which might be off a little. The Front RS wheel is about 6.5 lbs.

James... weigh yourself, then step on the scales and hold the wheel! It's more accurate than trying to weigh just the wheel! Wink

Michael... yes, the NX5 rear wheel can be fitted to the MC28. See if anyone spots the deliberate mistake though, other than the odd number of spokes a Pro-Arm rear has compared to all the other NSR wheels!*

* Not including the MC16 3-spokes... which at least match!

The scale I use is a small package scale. It doesn't go over 100lbs. I don't have another scale.

Oh, OK, I thought you may have been trying to weigh it on personal bodyweight scales, which can sometimes have difficulty reading light weights.

Thanks Andy...

Yes, I guess the wheel will be running in the wrong direction... But is this a problem...? Is this going to effect the wheel somehow...?

Sorry Fontyyy,

But I am not understand exactly what you are saying... My English isn't so good... You mean that there is no enough clearance between the rim and the swing arm...? Also if I put a 180/55 R17 tyre in the RS250 rim am I going to have the same clearance problem...

The bike is going to be ridden only on Sundays just for fun and I don't really care if it feels a little bit strange with a 180/55 R17 rear tyre... But I care a lot how it is going to looks like though...!!!
